I can't believe you'd troll like that. Surely you know what the pigeon lobby here is going to make of that statement!

These are not my views, I am merely trying to open a discussion.

Well, from a relative point of view, it's better than teaching the to do... that thing... where they dive and... hit the ground and... die and stuff... oh you know, it was in that... movie... about the guy.

It's also better than training them to spin in circles, like some famous psychologist did.

Or feeding them those tablets that make them explode.

Besides, I like playing Devil's Advocate and all, but if I could teach some pigeons to, I might finally get to argue the side I actually believe in...

how can you make that statement!
higher learning allows for people to see things from both sides, or at least to emphasie better. Just because they are not given the same options as you or I does mean its wrong to help them.
AFFIRMATIVE ACTION FOR ALL OF PIGEON KIND!!!!!!!!!!

The question isn't whether pigeons can/should be taught or whether they deserve to be. It is whether this particular teaching is ethical.

An old mate of mine worked as an exterminator and he once explained to me the
meaning of life
"Rats are vermin,
Squirrels are rats that have hired a publicist
Pigeons are rats with feathers"
Kill em all.

Is he now serving a life sentence for race crimes?

Why single out pigeons? There are numerous other critters that should never play 'devil's advocate'. Personally, I dislike debating monkeys. They too often resort to their throwing arms and bowel movements. And I KNOW they don't really disagree with me. They're just doing it because they can!

ahh but of course. If they were able to play devils advocate, they might understand better the arguments presented and might thus benefit.

But I understand that this would involve severe pain on their part. Mostly because they lack the capacity to understand human speech. If it even could be done in theory, in practise their heads would explode. Do pigeons have thoughts?

Monkeys can play chess.

Indeed, but they always fall for the Queen's Gambit. *nod*

GOD HOW ETHNOCENCTRIC OF YOU!!!!

your speech is not the only speech around you know?!? They can communicate with each other. Why don't you try learning another language!

maybe we should stop looking down on your fellow inhabitants!

How can they possibly teach each other before we teach them?
