Daily Show audience smarter than O'Reilley's

Apparently, Jon Stewart was on "the Factor" a while back and O'Reilley said "You know what's really frightening? You actually have an influence on this presidential election. That is scary, but it's true. You've got stoned slackers watching your dopey show every night and they can vote."

Comedy Central wondered about the intelligence level of their audience, so they did a little research. (http://www.entertainment-news.org/breaking/7949/comedy-central-refutes-oreillys-claim.html)

Viewers of Jon Stewart's show are more likely to have completed four years of college than people who watch "The O'Reilly Factor," according to Nielsen Media Research....

Comedy Central also touted a recent study by the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey, which said young viewers of "The Daily Show" were more likely to answer questions about politics correctly than those who don't.

Comedy Central had no statistics on how many people watch "The Daily Show" stoned.

So who's more reliable? The Daily Show with Jon Stewart or the O'Reilley Factor?

Neither. Both are a slightly milder, more sanitized version of the shock jocks we all know and love.

That doesn't make them smarter than people who watch O'Reilly. It makes them smarter than the average person that does not watch The Daily Show.

Yeah, but you could argue that being the type of person who would watch the Daily Show automatically means that you're smarter than the type of person who watches O'Reilley. :D (hint: the smiley means I'm mostly kidding.)

Well, I think that the fact that the O'Reilly Factor actually lowers your intelligence is pretty strong evidence in favor of Jon Stewart.

I really wouldn't know which is more reliable. I don't watch the O'Reilley Factor. I know that the Daily Show is as funny as hell, and as long as you're smart enough to know when they're kidding and when they aren't, you can get a pretty good idea of whats going on in the world. A lot of my friends know whats going on in the election simply because they watch the Daily Show. They don't like regualr news stations because they're boring.

Stewart, no question.

He's obviously pro-Kerry, but his show attacks idiots on both sides.
The Daily Show makes no attempts to be viewed as a "Legitimate Journalistic Source of News".
In fact, they make jokes about it.

What does Stewart have to gain by lying?

Well, you spelled O'Reilly incorrectly. I'm going to have to decrease your credibility level for that. Tsk, tsk. ;)

He's going to be on the Daily Show in the very near future. I can't wait to see what Stewart has in store for him.

I know it's only 11 responders so far, but damn that poll is solid.

I was tempted to take the spoiler answer but since I haven't been able to be that in 3 1/2 MONTHS(!!!!!) I had to go with Stewart. Damn this sucks. Like a friend once told me when he quit: "Now I remember what it's like to be bored..."

I hate being broke. I should have studied accounting or something.

Oh, he's no moron. He has just passed everyone's tolerance levels for "opinionation".

I would very much enjoy that as well, if I have a chance to watch it. :D

I like Stewart more because he's obviously pro-Democrats but he doesn't let that belief get in the way of ripping them apart when they screw up.

He replied to the notion that they where a liberal show once by saying:
"The republicans control both houses, the supreme court, the executive branch, most governerships...if we're gonna pick on someone, it's not going to be the Washington Generals..."

What it comes down to is there is more Republican to pick on than anything else. What he seems most interested in is getting the debate-right now he's railing against "those fucking retarded talking points," and I couldn't agree more.
