Nope. Unfortunately there are plenty of people dumb enough to believe this.

"At another campaign stop, as Bush spoke at a park in Racine, Wis., a protester revealed a T-shirt with the word ``LIAR'' and was escorted from the crowd. "
Didn't the US used to have freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest?
And am i mistaken in thinking that this country was built on the principle of non-interference in one's personal choice of morality/religion so long as it does not hurt another? that the freedom to worship in one's own way included the freedom NOT to worship.
Doesn't the separation of church and state require that no one religion be favored above another through legal legislation? If the ten commandments are in a monument in the courthouse, then so should be the Koran, or any other religious icon should be represented. Either allow them all or ban them all. THose are the choices.
As far as whether it will hurt the RNC's chances in the upcoming election?
Unfortunately, those who still support Bush have their heads in the sand anyway, and aren't going to listen to anything that doesn't already fit in with their beliefs.
Bush is good at using the language of dependency. Be afraid, you can't make it without me. Sheeple are easily scared.
Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Hermann Goering, Hitler's henchman, April 18, 1946, while awaiting the Nuremberg trials.
