Heard of them? Hell - I've seen all of 'em in concert back when they had careers.
Boston sucked as a live act BTW, even if they put a couple of decent albums together. As to your list - they all had some good songs and some crap, and none of them would rank in my "top bands of all time list", even though they all had great success at the time.

I really love boston, but the other two I have not heard of.
Boston's not too bad, and Styx is alright if I'm drinking. Don't much care for Kansas though. But Tom Petty is better than all of them!

Glad it worked :D
Never heard of them, I mainly listen to bands like The Clash, The jam and Meatloaf though (Mainly British, 70's-80's pop) though I also listen to Ian Dury a bit and UB40. Strange tastes for a 14 year old I know.

I really don't understand how people can't have heard of Styx. Boston is understandable and Kansas even more understandable, but Styx? Come on!
I like about a dozen Styx songs, half a dozen Boston songs (all that I've heard, but they all sound similar so i suspect I might like more), and one Kansas song (guess which one!).

Yep, thats me, stuck in the past. I hate everything modern, I only like the old stuff.

Yea, I saw Styx in concert. I wish so i coulda been alive back then... I woulda seen Skynyrd and AC/DC and Zeppelin and The Who and all the good old stuff live...
Yea, and I coulda guessed Boston sucked live, because they were essentially only this one guy who played 3 instruments and just layed the tracks of him playing and singing over each other. So he would have to tour with studio mucisians.

Boston- Don't care much for
Styx- Not my style
Kansas- A couple of good songs
I must applaud you for keeping Journey off of this list..BARF!!
But I must ask: Why weren't The Who, Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC added?
A personal fave: Van Halen (with David Lee Roth) :)
As for the Metallica debate: Anything up to and including ...And Justice for All. Everything else after that was just crap!!

They are in a different genre. I was going for AOR Sythesizer 70's rock here.

Boston - Decent band
Kansas - Very good band
Styx - Bad band, except for Mr. Roboto, which is only good about once a week, when under the influence of powerful drugs and alcohol.
Just my opinion.
(The Who, AC/DC, and Zeppelin rule. Along with Pink Floyd)

I know Styx did "Mr. Roboto," but thats all I know (fun to listen to when wasted.)
Kansas wrote "Dust in the Wind," which is a really good song, though I like the arrangement by the Scorpions better. :p
Boston I don't know them, but probably would recognize a song or two that they did.
styx had mr. roboto and come sail away. and that's about it...
mr. roboto is cool...

Don't get me started on how awful Mr. Roboto is. I resent the presence of Mr. Roboto every day of my life. For a really good Styx song, try Blue Collar Man (Long Nights).
you should seriously look into some zeppelin...

I have some Zeppelin, dont worry. Boston, Styx, and Kansas are not my 3 favorite bands, but I enjoy them and like them. My favorite bands are Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Who.

Styx
Kansas
Boston

Styx = Overblown, pompous theatric rock. (Though I like some of JY's stuff - Miss America rocks!)
Boston = Overproduced, empty-headed corporate rock.
Kansas = The most interesting of these bands, but still a little over the top for my tastes.
