What would the world be like if the Chinese Communists had been defeated by the Chinese Nationalists? What would China be like?

I've never seen this question asked before, so I thought I'd ask now.

don't know, but one can only assume that chang kai-shek would take over the number 3 spot for history's worst mass murderers.

Judging by my warfare simulation scenario. They would be what Japan tried to become. The domina of SE Asia.

What an interesting question. What a difference that would have made. The Korean War never would have happened and the Cold War would have shaped up entirely different, if there had been one at all.

I imagine that ultimately, China and the Soviet Union would have ended up at war. Two huge countries with diverging beliefs so close to one another? The ramifications for the entire world would have been huge.

I know there were border skirmishes, but it wasn't a full blown war...was it?

Could you imagine a full scale war? Would it have been likely that atomic weapons would have been used on a large scale? Who would have become involved and on what sides? Would Europe involve itself, considering the possibility of the continent becoming a wasteland beyond anyone's wildest dreams?

The world would be a better place.

I think WWIII would have officially started with the bunch of corrupt nationalists in power. But it seems that it's not going to be much better with the communists either.

The Asian theatre of the Cold War would never have happened or be radically different if Nationalists came to power.

Believe it or not, I think the world would be worse. I don't like the communists, but at least they pose less of a threat to peace in Asia than the nationalists would have.
