One of my other threads hasl address the reasons why political debates are pretty useless online this one is about the reason why we don’t see each other’s argument as correct even when we do those steps, one we don’t like each other so we don’t take each other seriously, two I think we have logic sensors in different parts of our brains.

It helps to envision everyone as having a sizeable number of "filters" which they carry around with them. Each filter helps us make sense of the world. Unfortunately, they also tend to make it highly difficult to "see things whole" or as others see them.

What do I mean by "filters?" Things like: portions of our genetic inheritance, which incline us to either rely more on logic to comprehend the world or emotion to comprehend the world; how we were raised; where we were raised ... what culture, what sub-culture, what religion, etc.; what we choose to read; who we trust; and on and on.

This is one reason we tend to have long term relationships with those more like us than not. It also goes a long way toward explaining some of the differences between men and women.

The truly amazing thing is that we are able to understand each other as well as we do. That we are even able to communicate basic ideas is a remarkable commentary on the adaptability of the human brain.
