**laughs** I've been reading through these forums too long. They're starting to make me think like a "leftist" The first thing I noticed about the list is that none of the entires said "And Jim Bob, worth 3 billion through his many years of hard work and frugality at a steel mill."

It is true that just about everyone there puts the "capital" in "capitalist": no workers who saved their money. On the other hand, a refreshing number of them are "new money" investors who made good on the rise of computers. Not exactly a sign of entrenched old money oligarchy.

No, it isn't. In fact, sometime soon, I expect Warren Buffet to surpass Bill Gates. Nearly all of his money was made by investments.
And look at the list for inheritance. The only major billionaires that inherited their wealth are the five Waltons, but even they jointly run Wal-Mart. The vast majority are self made.

We can't kidnap Gates, as he has those killer robots protecting his fortress. We may be able too, but the cost in human lives could be excessive.

Why?

What the hell do people need that much money for, really? $1 billion is an insane amount of money; 1000 people could live quite comfortably on that for their entire lives. I think when someone has accumulated multiple billions, it's time they start asking themselves if that money was better some place else. Keep themselves 50 houses and a billion on the side, sure, but send the other $40 billion where it might actually do some good in the world.

Most of those that have this much money invest it. Charity is nice, but it is only a band-aid. Investment empowers people to work. However, Bill Gates would be worth about $70 billion had he not given nearly $22 billion to charity. A few years ago, there was quite a stir when Bill Gates gave $1.1 billion to AIDS reasearch.

Do you think they are sitting on a $40 billion dollar mound of cash? These amount represent ownership in 1 or more companies. They are creating jobs, and wealth for tens of thousands of people. Are you proposing that they should liquidate the companies and distribute the proceeds? Do you not think they are good right now?
