A Case of Defense for Two Groups

For my first defense I would like to defend a group often attacked: Christians

Many people think all Christians are radical right wing supporters. This is simply not true. Many Christians may be but far from all. Myself for example. In fact in some parts of the BIBLE (the New Testament, maybe the Old Testament too, I'm not sure) radical LEFT wing views are expressed.

For my second defense I would like to defend: The Left Wing.

The left wing is not a bunch of Christian hating atheists who hate all religions except Islam as some have suggested (also I have nothing against Islam, I heard it said somewhere though). Many and I would think most of the left wing do not hate Christians or Christianity. Myself for example.

Christians: A cult of quadra-lateral torture device worshipers.

Leftists: A cult of medio-digital (middle finger) obsessed anal fixated arrested adolescents.

We live in such a Jehovah's Witness area that a sign along the highway said this:

"Saturday: The True Lord's Day. Sunday Laws=THE MARK OF THE BEAST!"

I completely agree with the principle of Christianity as far as the love and compassion and forgiveness thing goes.

But generally i see christians in the context of judging others. Telling others who don't agree with them that they are going to hell. How is that love or compassion or forgiveness? To me, it just makes them hypocrites. So it's not their beliefs that get me riled up, but their distorted practice of their beliefs.

My sticking point with Christians is their insistence that one takes Jesus as their personal saviour, the ONLY door to heaven. I ask them if one were to live a christ-like life, doing only good and giving only love, but they did it in the name of Buddha, would they go to hell? They say yes. Then i ask if one were a child molester, but took Jesus as their saviour, would they go to heaven. They say yes.

Something wrong with that picture, if you ask me.

As far as "liberals" go.... In the 20's the Socialist Party actually did pretty good in the presidential election. Then came the era of McCarthyism, where liberals were equated with communism and the Red Menace. They became the ideological embodiment of evil. Ask a Conservative what "liberal" actually means to them, and they can't tell you, other than by listing the most evil things they know of. Make them look it up in the dictionary, and when they see that liberal means "open minded" they are left speechless.

They are victims of ideological rhetoric. No different than someone who grows up in a racist household will learn to believe that all members of that race are bad people. Then they go and listen to Rush Limbaugh, who is the biggest hate monger of them all, and think that they are being well informed.

ignorance begets ignorance.

I like to turn the conversation of Liberal vs. Conservative to a more concrete discussion of the issues. The main difference in the two on issues is that on social issues, Liberals choose more freedom, and generally on economic issues they choose more regulation; while Conservatives are authoritarian on social issues, and want less business regulation.

Because of the two scales, social and economic, most arent completely Liberal or completely Conservative, except the extremists. Round out your understanding of where you are on the political spectrum by going to

i got (-2,-2) for that... my entire politics class got set it, because the teacher thought it would help people understand that there is no 'left wing vs right wing' anymore. Interestingly enough, whilst mine is pretty close to Ghandi, my best friend's one was exactly on Margaret Thatcher

its very interesting looking at american political discussions, where being called a liberal is considered an insult by many 'republican' affiliates, and neo-conservative vice-versa.

Personally.... i get a little irritated by evangelical religions, but hey, as long as you're not harming anyone, go for it

Not all Christians are willing to make that sort of statement. I struggled with this myself, and came to the personal conclusion that belief may be a matter of action, not just a certain dogma. Thus, a good life would count for something. I know a lot of fundamentalists would want my head for this, but it's the way that makes sense to me.

You can always tell a college student. They use fancy technical jargon thinking it makes them look cool, kinda like a fourth grader spitting and swearing. It's fresh ground for them and therefore exciting.

But even though their vocabulary has grown, their reasoning, logic and debating skills, not to mention actual accumulation of knowlege, can not keep up.

That's why they toss in stink bombs like that and run.

Unfortunately, kindness does not seem to garner the same degree of response as contentiousness does. :-/
