s'alright, bonhams better for the skill aspect though.
listen to Bonzo's Monreaux (moby Dick) live, and youll understand - the kick drums are friggin super-human - the guy has to be an alien.

He's got my # 1 vote. But I'm gonna have to give respects to Jizmak Da Gusha of Gwar. Not that he's a extrordinary drummer or anything, it's just that he could kick any other drummers ass if they were to fight.
Hey, what do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians?
A drummer.
Now, now, Mr. Percussion, you just sit back and keep the beat going. Let the real instruments take care of everything else. You know what I'd like to hear in a drum solo? A G, and then maybe a B sharp.... you know, notes? Screw drum solos. The best drummers are the ones who stay where they belong, in the background. That's why I like Max Roach, who performed with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. The man let the real musicians play and backed them up, as is his proper function.

:headbang: Well "feef" moon had this tendency as does Animal. but to throw a curve ball, what about Cozy Powell, he had a huge drum solo hit the top of the UK charts many years ago, it was good as well, two drum kits and very little in the way of supporting instruments but still carrying a "choon"

He said it when the Smiths were at the height of their fame! when he was on a new release programme on Radio 1 with Mike Reid. It was years ago but ever since then I can't stand the guy. Sorry.

Ronnie Verrell played animal on the muppets, and the character of 'Animal' was based on Kieth moon's wild stage antics, so any comparrison there is deserved.
Now, for the gold star, what other band did Ronnie Verrell play in? (no google!!)

Nicko Mcbrain from Maiden .. and whoever drums for Cradle of Filth....
And man that was weird , I was just about to put the Smiths on when I read bout em on here .... * Scary * lol
Dave Grohl Is damn good too ... He ' s a very talented musician in general , actually.... Oh , and Joey from Slipknot is also very good :)
Overall though ... I would have to go with some of the old ( and unfortunately less famous ) Jazz drummers ... I mean , not my taste really or anything , but they were definitely the best ....

I have. But thats not the point. This was tested a few years back by a drummer magazine, (I can't remember which one), and Ringo beat out everybody by at least 30 minutes...
Most modern drummers can't hold a rhythm for longer than 4 minutes.

Better and best, in music, tend to be subjective.
One usually prefers the music of their own favorite style & generation. For me, John Bonham shall always remain the standard by which others are judged.

As a drummer....
John Bonham
Keith Moon
Danny Carey (from Tool)
Dave Grohl
Mike Portnoy
Max Weinburg, just because I like him on Conan O'Brien
And I'm going to nominate "That Guy" from AC/DC, because I've yet to meet a person who could name the drummer from AC/DC off the top of their head, and I find that that's a testament to his ability.

Hands down!
What is wrong with you people? Only once was he mentioned in the thread.
And to the person who said drummers should stay in the background, who I refuse to even take the time to go back and properly quote, you obviously haven't ever heard an actual "percussionist".
See, drummers keep the beat with a snare, high-hat and bass drum. A "percussionist" plays a myriad of instruments. They even produce melodies, i.e. A, D, G, etc ... you are most likely listening to MTV trash and other "pop" music of the ages.

My Buddy Martin Bak, a loooooong time Lars Ulrich and Metallica fan went to a Metallica concert at the Palace of Auburn hills in Michigan on Friday. He brought w/ him a sign that said "Lars Let ME Play Your Drumkit"...he was right at the cage. Guess what happened? He got pulled on stage and got to play the intro to seek and destroy w/ Metallica. That's right, he played with Metallica. This was by far the highlight of Martins life. His drumkit at home is set up exactly the way Ulrichs is so it was perfect! Martin has a recording studio in his home "SLR" records and has been playing guitar and drums since he was a little kid. He would give Lars a genuine run for his money if they did a face off.
Here is Martins studio website there is a pic of him playing w/ Lars. Also if you go to the Metallica website you can see him on that as well.
