Do you think Roger Daltrey sees the irony in singing "My Generation" now that he's in his 50s?

I hope I die before I get old....

Yes. "Tommy" is one of my favorite films ever. It's totally insane.

Well, it wasn't him that wrote those words - it was Townshend, who remains somewhat less of a fogey than Daltrey, it should also be borne in mind that they are not talking about chronoligcal age but mental age, and of course, the stuttering that is an integral part of the song's delivery shows us that in performance Daltrey is playing a character other than himself - a snarling, frightened character cowed and beaten by authoirty and by the world, but still standing up and raging at it in the only graceless way he knows how.

In other words - no, there is no irony, but Daltrey remains something of a twat, unlike Townshend who has remained a credible artist.

I also reject your question as Roger Daltrey is now in his sixties, not fities...

I love The Who. One of my favorite bands of all time. And their songs are always fun to cover. I saw Los Lobos do My Generation at a concert, and it was awesome.

Correct, Townshend meant getting old in the mind, not body. He never wanted to be an adult, and as far as I know, he never has.
