SuperPower 2 - Geopolitical Simulation & Thermonuclear War!

The longawaited sequel to the geo-political simluation game known as Superpower is finally coming out within the next 3 weeks.

For all you nation warring and sparring buffs, CHECK OUT THIS GAME! You can see all about it at www.SuperPower2Game.com, but you need macromedia. If you don't wanna hassle with that, go to the Golemlabs website (www.golemlabs.com), to the Laboratory, and of course, to Superpower 2.

This game seems rather complex, but they are apparently going to have great tooltips and an in depth manual so it shouldn't be that hard to learn.

Also, the game will have multiplayer capability of up to 32 players. This means 32 human-controlled NATIONS, deciding what government style they want, dictating the lives of their people, deciding the political relations with the world around them, and making thermonuclear war on Canada!

I highly recommend the members of Nationstates to try the demo at least (although I for one note the complexity of it, and so merely await the official release), and I feel that most people here would enjoy this game.

It fried (literally) my sisters computer. Destroyed it. Made it useless. Only bit of software that I've ever seen do that (that is, the original superpower).

After trying the disaster that was Superpower 1, I'm a bit nervous over buying Superpower 2. Superpower 1 was just too ambitious, and executed in a haphazard and sloppy way, the game was not engrossing at all.

Yeah, the first one had bugs because it was rushed out. This one they've taken their time on and it's pretty much coherent and compatible.

I believe that mostly it's just been people's computer's that aren't compatible. Both the original and the demo for the sequal always worked fine for me, and I'm running a well built (I and my dad put it together) comp with XP. I dunno what could be causing other people's misfortunes, but mine works fine if I don't screw around with the administrative options that can change my profile's profile and thus accidentally render basically half of my computing needs impossible.... but I Restored, so all is well... NEVER MESS WITH THE COMPUTER MANAGEMENT SECTION OF ADMINISTRATOR TOOLS UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING! lol I know this from bad bad experience.... :headbang:

... hahaha... dude, no game can fry a computer. If you overwork a computer and tell it to do something else, THAT could fry it... but anyway, no one should fear the game because of this. Like I said, it works absolutely fine for me and alot of other people. Every game ever created gets feedback concerning compatibility issues or working issues, and that's why alot of game makers put out demos, to see what they can do to make it easier for people to play the game.

Nope. Deadlocked the computer, froze it, wiped out quite a bit of the hard drive and destroyed the BIOS. Shoddy workmanship if you ask me.

Superpower was crap. It was good for the 9.99 bargain bin after it was around for a year or two. But otherwise it was a hackjob the military interface was horrible, the political interface horrible. Everything about it was horrible.

Because it's different. And what aspect did you not like? Also- it cost less than any 3 month old FPS, so don't give me that crap. I understand how this type of game isn't people's cup of tea, basically because it's not designed to be exclusively a war game, but rather a simulation of a political arena, where the players are Countries, and you have to deal with each other, or fight them, and the more serious players will be most likely to not fight them.

Anyway. And CSW, it had to be something originating with your computer, because no game by itself can fry a computer. either that, or you simply had a virus that got opened up at the same time you installed? who knows, besides that's 2 years in teh past.

And to Superpower 1's being a sloppily made game, I would definately have to agree. And the makers agreed. That's why they made Sp2, to right the wrongs of old, and almost put out an entirely new and different game. This one is in 3D, the AI is much more realistic and advanced, both likely to start nuclear war and to invite you to join multi-lateral alliances.

My message is simply that if you didn't like Superpower 1, try superpower 2, because they're completely different. *I* didn't like Superpower 1. Had so many innumerable bugs. but after recieving so much flack and info from it's customers, Golemlabs put out 4 patches that all but eradicated most of the bugs, although some were impossible to do away with, which is why we now have another game, one that appears to have no bugs whatsoever, but instead the only things that can be found wrong with it is it's style of gameplay, and that's always a personal choice in all games.

Wrong. No viruses, all of the computers in my house are tightly controlled and scanned. Superpower did it.

A game CAN freeze a computer, but it cannot wipe the HDD or BIOS... unless they programmed it to do that, which I doubt. I am pretty sure it can not flash the BIOS though, especially on older computers whose BIOS cannot be flashed...

Maybe it didn't wipe the BIOS. It sure as hell did something with the HDD, destroyed the windows os that I had on it...

I know of at least one game that could accidentally destroy HDD partitions when using a specific multiplayer connection protocol, but I agree that a game is highly unlikely to affect BIOS...

Actually U9 had a bug where it corrupted your harddrive and another game had the same bug that come out relatively recently

Hence why I said "Unless it is programmed to do so...", a bug that does so was obviously programmed in.

Let's just hope this one works.
I'm going to wait for Gamespot to say if it works or not.
