Is there a spending cap to that of campaign advertisements?

I'm just wondering if there are.

If there aren't any, IMO there should be.

It's not a simple question. Since their repsective conventions ended, both Kerry and Bush have a limited amount of money to spend for campaigning--and that includes ads, but also includes a lot of other stuff like salaries and travel expenses and the like.

The parties have funds that they can spend on advertising as well, but I believe they can only spend what's known as hard money--money that's been raised in no more than $2,000 increments per donor.

PACs can spend money on advertising, but it can only be hard money and they cannot directly advocate for or against a candidate, nor can they coordinate with a candidate's campaign.

527's I'm not so sure about because they're new. They can take soft money donations, but as to advertising limits, I can't tell you.
