Anyone else here into steampunk (alternate history, Scientific Romance) stuff? If you've nay 'eard tell o' bonnie li'lle steampunk, go to http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/9094/STEAM2.html. It's cool. If you've no patience at all, perhaps you've heard of/seen/played/read Space 1889/Castle Falkenstein/Atlantis: The Lost Empire/Van Helsing/The Difference Engine? These are all steampunk.

Yes, Arcanum DOES fit. And yes, it is awesome. But Arcanum is described a fantasy steampunk as opposed to historical steampunk. Fantasy 'punk is steampunk in a fantasy world, complete with dwarfs, elves, steam-belching technology, and hobbi- I mean, halflings. Historical steampunk is where you imagine what would happen if the industrial revolution, for example, had happened a century earlier- in 1675. What kind of fantastic steam driven technology would the world have, if it had a century more to develop steam-power? Of course, the Industrial Revolution doesn't need to be the starting point. You could ask about what would have happened if Napoleon hadn't lost at the Battle of Waterloo, or if the American South hadn't lost in 1864. That's what makes steampunk cool- it's user defined.
