Suppose every Democratic and Republican politician spontaneously combusted and withered to ashes in a second. Who would you want to win the presidential election?

Mice are pretty reliable. They also can be trained to do a certain routine. Then just get a speechwriter, makeup and political backer. We would never notice.

I'd say Badnarik. I certainly don't agree with his economic policy for the most part, but he wouldn't be able to get most of his ideas implemented anyway, so he couldn't do any real damage. Of course, that also means that he won't be able to pass the legislation I'd like him to, but he couldn't be any worse than Kerry, and he's be a damn sight better than Bush.

he couldnt get his agenda through? why not? all the republicans and democrats spontaneously combusted after all... that includes those dominating the legislative branch and maybe even the judges!

Personally I chose a random bum on the street. After all, isn't that who we have now? Just kidding of course, but Bush does show that it doesn't require much intelligence to be the president of the united states, just a bunch of skilled followers (especially helps if they can do character assassinations for your opponents). I think a bum could be just as steadfast and faith-based too.
