Probably not a lot of people know or care about this game but I have always been a fan of the Metal Gear series and I'll be interested to see this new installment set in the 60's. Most people have a reasonable idea of how gameplay works but very few know what the plot is going to be about. Hideo Kojima has done a very good job hiding that from the public. So what do you guys think it's going to be about?

from the looks of it, its set in or earlier than the time period for the first metal gear game (and no, that is NOT the playstation one)

basically about 3 discs is going to be snake going throguh the jungle and another 3 with him invading the some stronghold, probably heaven if i recall the right codename

Just thought I'd be nerdy and correct you. The code name is Outer Heaven and it's not actually a 'place' as such. It's more like an enviroment where balance of war between countries. That was Big Boss's sick and twisted dream.

Before I get to the point, Ill give you some history behind my opinion of Snake Eater.........

First and foremost, the first Metal Gear Solid (The Playstation verson) blew me away. The graphics were top notch for its time (I still find myself playing it today) and the soundtrack was superb, drawing you into its world. Immersive stuff. But what really got me hooked was the voicework. Man, was the story brought to life by the actors. Psycho Mantis was the high point of boss "Coolness" and the Ninja was just simply amazing. Voicework has never sucked me in emotionally (Key in point is when Naomi spills the beans on her past..... tell me you didnt feel sorry for just one minute) since I first heard it in MGS. And while the Gamecube remake was excellent in terms of playability, I absolutely HATED the voicework that was re-recorded. It doesnt have that ambient emotional feel, the actors sounded like they just read the lines instead of acting them out (Anyone who has played both versions knows what im talking about). Yes, some cutscenes were great (Espically the "Ninja in the Hall" sequence), some were cool (Snake fighting the Ninja before the gameplay segment), but most of them were chock full of Bullet Time Cliches (No, Snake jumping off of a missile WAS NOT COOL). Not bad in general, but sorely lacking in comparison to the original.

And then we have Metal Gear Solid 2. Now, if the first game has taught us anything, we know that you need to have a coherent story, great voicework and interesting areas to explore. Hideo Kojima must have been smoking some SERIOUS crack that day. What the hell happened?!?! I once again stress story and presentation, MGS2 didnt have any of that. Yes, the game started out amazingly, with Snake making a dramatic introduction, stealth camo and all. However, the game went downhill when Revolver Ocelot was possesed with "The Hand". I dont think I need to go any further that that. Yes people, the story blew......... HARD.

Which brings me to Snake Eater. From what Ive seen and heard, I am curious and excited at the same time. Gameplay elements look rather fresh (Stealth is based on your Camoflauge selection) and innovative (I love the aligator disguise). And even for the PS2, the graphics look great (Yes, I hate the PS2 hardware........ but dont forget that the screen captures and movies ARE running at high resolution). What concerns me is the plot, as well as the voicework and presentation. Big Boss may seem interesting, and his background should raise a few eyebrows. What worries me is how it will all come together. Just dont have Campbell reveal that he slept with his stepmom and Ill be totally happy!!
