I got mine back in February from one of the original members. The people Google gave 50 invites apiece to. Back when they were worth something. Sold one of my invites for $45, and bought a hard drive with the money. All paypal and internet. Got something tangible and useful for a what amounts to a little bit of clicking and good luck. woo.

Now my invites are free.

I don't see what's so special about G-mail. I already have it, as I got it from a friend. Hotmail offers 2GB, and Gmail 1GB. I'm also quite sure Yahoo will bring it up to 2GB as well. Big competition. The only thing I like about Gmail is the absense of useless ads. And the layout is quite cool.

Gmail is Google's successful attempt to make other web-based email providers flinch. They blew everybody out of the water with the 1GB thing.

Oh, Hotmail only gives you a paltry 250MB. WTF kind of shit are you shoveling with 2GB?

2GB is only for the paid Yahoomail stuff.

I have Gmail too.

...Hotmail offers 2GB, ...
Erm... the pay service is only 250Megs. The free hotmail is 2 Megs, not Gigs. 1/1024th the space.

That's the only special thing about it, though. More space than you should find a reason for. And having a "closed beta," with (I think) five or six digits of people invited.
