What novel or piece of literature are you currently misreading?
Do you think "The Wizard of Oz" is about populism? Do you think "Animal Farm" is just about talking animals?
Me, I think my Chemistry book is a microcosm of the New Testament.
Anyone else?

My old high school has one that says "Slow Children At Play" I get a kick out of that every time.
Currently though I'm not misreading anything. I'm reading a novel but not misreading it. One that I might have misread a bit in the past was "Fountainhead" by Ayn Rynde (sp of name). That book was challenging.

...and what album was at the top of the charts in 1984?
Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.
And what syncs up with the Wizard of Oz?
Exactly.

Some of it is history. The listing of kings of Israel and Judah match exactly with Assyrian documents, although the Bible puts a much different spin on the quality of those rulers (most of the rulers the Assyrians describe as good because they were able to expand Israel's power-base were described by the Bible as awful because of their refusal to strictly adhere to Torah and worship only God). It's just the first 5 books that people need to realize aren't history.

Ah, don't talk about the bible! It'll turn into a political/moral/whatever debate...

I always thought of the Wizard of Oz as a homage to the symbols and practice of Theosophicism which is essentially Luciferianism(the 2 have very similar definitions). Baum was a theosophical convert. The US government is actually rumored to train their MK-Ultras with this book.

Do you think "The Wizard of Oz" is about populism?
I always quite liked Salmon Rushdie's interpretation of the Wizard of Oz =- that "There's no place like home" doesn't mean "There is only one single place which is like home", but instead that "There is no place (even 'home' itself) which is actually home".
Nobody mentioned ZARDOZ yet?

http://www.theosophical.org/theosophy/oz/How silly, everyone knows that The Wizard of Ozis all about reforming the US government along anarcho-capitalist principals, note the obvious allusions to A-C monetary policy: Follow the yellow brick road = Adopt the gold standard; Emerald City is only emerald as long as you wear the greeen lensed glasses = greenbacks (paper currency) only have value as long as people think they do; the greenback, er Emerald, City which is ruled by the great and powerful OZ and pay no attention to the man behind the curtain = behind the scenes manipulating the currency is no great and powerful person but a little nebbish; and so on. Hesh, it is so obviously a propaganda ploy to indoctrinate small children into A-C beliefs that I suspect it was actually the work of an agent provoceteur to make A-Cs look bad.

You are deliberately ignoring the fact that the Jews use the black races as part of their conspiracy to keep the white man down: the 'green' army are just the black footsoldiers employed as cannon fodder by the secret Zionist masters.*
* I know this to be true because I read it here on NationStates.

You weren't listening. Morris Day and the Time are black. AND they're known for singing:
"I! I've been watching you! Girl I wanna know ya (know ya)"
"And I...something something...girl I wanna show ya (show ya)"
"My jungle love....Oh-e-oh-e-oh!"

On the side of the mustard is "Mustard Trivia" where they ask you a question, but they answer is online at their website.
Now, I don't want to venture into that site, but maybe if we nominated somebody to do an expedition?
Am I the only one who finds the hidden jokes on the back labels of canned goods?!? :eek:Hmm I've never found any hidden ones, just the obvious ones like "Modified Corn Starch". I suspect you are the only person in the world to find the hidden jokes.
As for the WW of the West symbolizing Jews, that may be applicable for the film version, but in the book the WWotW obviously symbolized the drain of silver from the US to support the China trade (where paper money was not accepted, to buy goods in China the US had to come up with silver while the Chineese could by goods fromthe US with paper fiat money) - China being to the west of the US.

I obviously misread The Joy of Cooking, because I'm still not enjoying it.
I apparently interpreted The Joy of Sex somewhat better.
Oh I forgot to answer the original question. Probably road signs.
So I drove past this road today and saw it had a sign in front of it that said "Not A Through Street". I've been by that road many times, and that sign has been there for the past five years. I know about governemnt employees, but after five years I should think they would be through with that street, I mean it's only a short dead-end street.
Yesterday I was driving through some construction and saw a new sign, it said "Dip". I thinks it's awfully rude for a sign to call me names, especially as the sign didn't even know me.
I also kinda wonder what is intended by those signs which say "Pedestrians have the right of way on crosswalk". Does that mean they're fair game on the sidewalk?
