An Anniversary not worth celebrating.

According to the Daily Rotten (the place that first linked the story about the woman who was fired over her Kerry bumpersticker), today is the 84th anniversary of the first ever car bombing.

http://www.rotten.com/today/images/sep/rh-wall-street-bomb.jpg

The caption reads:
A horse-drawn carriage parked at the corner of Wall and Broad streets suddenly explodes just past mid-day. 100 pounds of dynamite hurls 500 pounds of steel shrapnel into a crowd of New Yorkers, killing 40 and wounding almost 300 others. No one is ever charged in the world's first car bombing.

Here's the only pontificating I plan on the subject--this is more proof that we are not fighting a war on terrorism. Terrorism is a tactic that predates even this incident, and there's no way we can ever wipe it out short of making it ineffective. And we can't hope to defeat our true enemies as long as we're deluding ourselves about who they are.

A little reseach proved it actually was a terrorist incident. Appartently it was linked to the Sacco & Vanzetti Trial, a couple of Anarchists who were tried for a bomb plot allegedly directed at officials because of persecution and deportation of Anarchists. The car bomb was reportedly in retaliation for Sacco & Vanzetti's arrest.

Did I ever say it wasn't a terrorist incident? I don't understand the point you're trying to make here, Corporate Christians.

sacco and vanzetti were tried for robbery and murder - vanzetti was surely innocent, sacco maybe not. and nobody ever claimed the wall street bombing. anarchists, even 'propaganda of the deed-ists' didn't claim it, because it doesn't fit with normal anarchist practice and ideology. if we are going to commit violence against people, we make sure we don't hurt people at random - if we are being ideologically consistent at least.

it might have been done by people who identified with anarchism outside of the core of the movement. it might not. but all we have on it are the baseless accusations of cops and newspapers of the day. and they always just make random shit up about us.
