I know its rather petty, but it's been getting on my nerves for the past year or so, and after inhaling waaaaayyy too much CS gas today, I've finally reached the break-point.
The word is GODMODE.
NOT 'godmod.'
The term came about originally from the first 'Doom,' cause it had a cheat code, "god" which turned on "GODMODE", making the player invincible. The term became something bigger when people started using it to describe invincibility, impossibility and indestructability, such as in Roleplaying.
Where did godmod come from, then, if its not the proper term? My theory: A bunch of someones have seen the term 'godmoding,' never having seen the actual term 'godmode.' They take this word, and still ever thinking in terms of games, the root of the original word, believe the 'mod' part is short for 'Modding" or Modifications in games. Of course, Modding is spelt with two Ds. But thats okay, cause spelling is optional on the internet. Well, why wasn't the 'e' there to make sure the proper word was observed? I'll use an example. "Store" + "ing" = "storing", not "storeing." You drop the E to tack on the ING.
I dont believe I can stop all the people using the "Mod' version, but it at least gets the annoyance off my chest for a time, since I'm so damn sick of seeing 'godmod.'
