A grand poll will include the best and most prominenet of a certain genre of metal...

This weeks genre of metal is death metal...

(wait for poll: May take a while... cause I have to think this through...)

Listen to Death.

(Especially Scream Bloody Gore...)

They virtually made the genre...

Scream Bloody Gore is pure genius.

Six things to do with death (in the band names) out of ten poll choices. I see that Death Metal is keeping up with its name.

Are Pungent Stench classified as death metal? If so, that's my vote.

...or, what about (early) Sepultura?

If it has to be one from the list, I would choose Morbid Angel...

Eh... well I don't know Pungent Stench...

And Sepultura... eh... I guess I could have included it...

Note: The reason I didn't include the option "other" would be simply because I bet a lot of people would say... "I chose other cause I don't like death metal..." or "I chose other for Metallica!" or "I chose other for Nine Inch Nails... IT is SO death metal..." or other stupid things like that...

Aw people don't like death metal on NS...

I'll have to move on to speed metal earlier than planned.

I suppose Opeth is left off of the list because of your personal opinion of them? Even if you don't agree, they do call themselves death-metal, anyway! ;-)

Maybe an "other" option at the very least could be added next time!

I don't really listen to death metal, but I listen to a few other types...pantera, iron maiden, dragon force, arch enemy...and others

Opeth has been left off the list, because they are not pure death metal...
I actually am okay with Opeth... they have a couple of good songs like "Bleak" "Serenity Painted Death" and a couple of others... but in the scheme of death metal... there are very few death metal listeners who would choose Opeth as the best in death metal.

See above on why I didn't put an other option.

And listen to at the very least Death, before you say that Opeth is better than all ten bands on there.

I mean chances are you haven't listened to all the bands on there. I haven't listened to all the bands up there actually!. I chose bands that were prominenet among fans of death metal. So my choice of Death amy also be incorrect, although I doubt it... since they did start the genre... and all...

No vote for me. I like metal, but this death metal stuff is goofy. The stuff I've heard sounds like they're trying too hard, WAY too hard. The vocals sound like some monster from a B horror movie. I can't take this stuff seriously.

Yes, that is my qualm with some death metal... but there are some really great death metal bands out there... they are just overshadowed by the sheer number of crappy death metal bands. Sadly, nowadays if you can't play the guitar well, can't sing, and can barely use the drums, you can always form a death metal band.

Its horrible how such people perverted the genre in the eyes of the public.

But seriously, you may want to listen to my two favorite death metal bands, Death and Kataklysm...

Most other death metal bands I just don't like that much... even the better ones...

But do listen to Death's first album, they made the genre and are worth listening to if you are truly interested in the metal genre as a whole. Stay away from the newer bands that label themselves as death metal... because they frankly are nothing worth listening to.

No Obituary. I'll just have to vote for Nile then.* No Slipknot either...

*Note to Amerigo: Thank you for including Lawnmower Deth, but they're the greatest thrash metal band of all time, not death metal. And no matter what was in the poll, I would have picked a band that wasn't there.;) And if you're doing speed metal, don't mix it up with thrash...

Damn... I thought it was a mix of thrash and death metal... (thats what a quick google search told me...)...

I thought speed and thrash was basically the same thing...

What's the difference?

Speed metal- basically traditional metal played faster. Try Metal Church, Helloween, Rage, early Blind Guardian. Evolved into power metal.

Thrash metal- metal crossed with hardcore/punk, which is where you get Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Lawnmower Deth and the rest.

I thought Slayer was speed metal for sure...

Well I kinda get what your saying... speed metal sounds a lot clearer like traditional heavy metal right... But I thought that Slayer was speed metal...

Of all metal, Death Metal is the one I know the least.

They are more rock than metal...

But if one were to label them metal... they would be heavy metal... if anything.

Just out of curiousity why did you choose Nile and not Death?

After recently getting the Scream Bloody Gore album... they have quickly become my favorite death metal band.
