Would the USA be a better place to live if the army and police were scrapped, and national and personal defence were entrusted entirely to private citizens with full access to military hardware?

With the Assult Weapons ban ending, I think private citizens protecting themselves has already begun.

Basically, no. American citizens are -on a whole- too lazy to defend themselves. We would not be able to organize and produce effective tactics in combat. Plus, a lot of that military hardware requires a ton of training. In addition, that would also make the USA a free-for-all for any terrorist/criminal organization who wanted good weapons.

I think in that situation we would end up killing each other. After all we are murder capital of the world!!

well the soldiers now would actually still be soldiers then , with the same training and expertise, they would help ease the transition to a national militia, with more widespread decentralized training.

It's false assumption that our military and police are all the keep us safe. In fact, much of law enforcement and military do nothing to keep us safe, and often create all the danger in the first place. Do you think the war on drugs or the war on terrorism makes you safer?

I went down to the gun store today just to see if anything was different since the ban being lifted. Same exact guns and high capicity clips just not 'used' now. Plus any legal citizen can now pay 695 (Olympic arms has a factory bull free floating one for this price) for a gun that cost 1300 during the ban.

The ban only helped the gun industry and criminals. I like it when some states ban cheaper guns by calling them saturday night specials, then poor people lose their right to own a gun because they can not afford what is left lol. So basicaly now that the ban is uplifted the only thing that has changed is prices, less favoring for the rich to be the only ones able to own one.

To answer the original question. Who would be in charge of all of the training and formation of the malitia's? Our military and police that were disbanded. So basically they would just have more to choose from for part time or less duties. Plus you throw in all the veterans in this country and any other survivalists and so on. I dont think under any circumstance we would be up shit creek or as an old friend would say "looks like you stepped in a bucket of fuck son".
