I'm curious to hear why anyone would think that war has made us safer.

I'm curious to hear why anyone would think that war has made us safer.1. The current Iraq war has achieved exactly what was planned to be prevented by it: the spread of terrorism. And now that all two of Bush's wars are out of control, it will be a lot easier for islamist agitators to use the messed up situations in Afghanistan (where the Taliban and the warlords and the regional chieftains are back in full power) and Iraq to find new followers.
2. I find it somewhat inappropriate to narrow the question just to the safety of the US.

Note that I did say "has the Iraq war made anyone safer" not just the US.

That's likely true, but probably not much safer considering the security situation in that country.

It made a lot of people safer. If those people are Bush and his neo-con buddies, ad by safer you mean "economically safer". Ie: will never have to lift a goddamn finger ever again, neither will his grandkids.

From now on let it be known that in this thread I mean anyone, not just the USA. Satisfied?

I don't feel in any more danger than I was before the war. Then, I don't really care. I mean, about anything. I just live life as it comes. Things like terrorism don't really worry me all that much. I'll just deal with an attack if it comes as best I can, if I survive of course. And if it doesn't come? Great. I'll go on regardless. I don't let it get me down.

I don't think the world was in danger from Saddam Hussein. He was a pretty sick guy, I'll grant you that, but I don't think the international community had much to worry about so far as Iraq was concerned.

As for the Iraqis themselves... well.. do they look safer to you?

nope... but it certainly has caused many more civilian deaths than 9/11 caused in the name of 9/11. I would say that it has put the US in much more danger.

It's probably made Syria and Iran safer for now. If we really had been welcomed with flowers and rejoicing, we'd have moved on by now, probably into Iran, and if you think we're in deep shit now, well, the shit factor would have increased exponentially.

I don't really feel any safer than I did before; however, I didn't feel that threatened to begin with. Because I didn't feel unsafe, all the extra security precautions people have to go through seems more like a hastle than for safety.

YES
im not really sure just who, but iraq has become the "in" place for new terrorists to go. so, it seems to me, they arent somewhere ELSE thus making someone safer.

Our troops are stretched thin.

We might need more.
