isnt that a reason for america not to be cool?
if ANYONE sets of ANY nukes, the entire planet is doomed. if america (or any other country) sets off a nuke, then the other country will surely return fire before impact. also, since they know they're going to die, they might (in the case of several middle-eastern countries) decide that as long as there dying, theyll just take out each and every one of their enemies as well. so they set off all of their nukes at a bunch of other countries, and then theres like a hunderd nukes flying all over. with this all happening, everyone else will launch their nukes at everyone else, thus guaranteeing the extinction of mankind.

6. We have a Constitution that limits the power of the government, not the rights of the people

So? In the UK we don't have a Constitution and that doesn't limit the people or the government. If a law needs to get changed, people argue and fight about it (see idiot protestors today) but it can get changed by public ideals, NOT because some blokes a few hundred years ago wrote it on a bit of parchment.

cant use that one, the constitution was nullified by the patriot act. at this point it is worth as much as toilet paper. one-ply toilet paper, despite being a great idea worthy of much respect.

Rather my point. No old chaps writing stuff down that can't be changed, hundreds of years later, even if loads of people are trying to get it changed.

if america is so cool (well, actually it is, i've spent a lot of time there, it's lovley, full of very nice people, and i'd be proud of it too, but as we DO enjoy slagging it off, so...) then why in the creators name do you still have the death penalty? Are you aware that the whole planet, aside from fucked-up fanatic states and Comunist countries have given it up YEARS ago? How barbaric and backward are the states that still think this is a good idea? And don't say its just the southern states (although, sure, its by far mostly in the southern states...freaks) because, for one, new hampshire has it - though its not actually slaughted anyone in years. But thats just one example. Defend this. And properly. No half-assed points.

America is cool because

They wont sign up to the treaty that all other RESPECTABLE countrys have regarding global warming they want more sleezy weapons, more oil and keep pumping gases into the enviroment that are going to melt the ice caps to quickly
not giving humanity enough time to get into space (colonies) to save its self.

Global warming is junk science. In the last 20 years the average tempature of earth has changed less than 3 degrees. and that change was down not up.

Bleh. I will take the works of Fellini, Pasolini, De Sica, Antonioni, Eisenstein, Bergman, Herzog, Fassbinder, Murnau, Kurosawa, Oshima, Ray, et al., over the crap put out by Spielberg, Lucas, Bay, Schumacher, Ratner, Bogdonovich, Friedkin, Capra, Burton, Mann, et al. The other countries of the world have excelled at making cinema an art form; the U.S. has excelled at making it industrialized pablum.

But I would argue that's half the problem with Britain today. Government without limitation is essentially mob rule. The brilliance of the U.S. Constitution is that it limited the power of government and even gave us a way to throw out stupid laws that the government passes (look at all of the abortion laws that have been thrown out lately), while still granting us the power to amend it as needed. The government can pass all of the overbearing, rediculous, rights stealing laws that it wants, but the Constitution wisely provides a counterweight to government authority via the courts that allows us to keep it in check and throw those laws out. No other government that I'm aware of has this flexibility, and it's the primary reason the U.S. Constitution has remained essentially unchanged for more than two centuries.

cant use that one, the constitution was nullified by the patriot act. at this point it is worth as much as toilet paper. one-ply toilet paper, despite being a great idea worthy of much respect.

The portions of the Patriot Act that are unconstitutional will be declared so when someone is prosecuted under them and challenges the validity of the law. There are legal groups across the U.S., including the ACLU, that are looking for a test case as we speak to overturn it. The very fact that they haven't found one yet indicates that the more odius aspects of the Patriot Act aren't being enforced.

Besides, the Patriot Act expires in December 2005, and even though Bush wants it extended, the votes aren't there in Congress to make it happen (in fact, most of the congresscritters that supported it have publicly rebuked it at this point). If Kerry is elected, the chances of the Patriot Act being extended are essentially zero. If Bush is re-elected, I'd put the odds at less than 10%. Citizens on both the left and the right oppose the law, it won't survive a constitutional challenge, and our congressional representatives simply don't want to risk their careers on this thing anymore.

Wow.... I guess the same thing could have been said during WWII when even harsher measures than the "patriot act" were taken. Yet we got through that ordeal ok and we will get through this ok as well. I would like for anyone to show me ONE right that I had before the patriot act that I don't have now. Just one. Anyone?
