i love our British system because it elects who we want not who big buisness wants. it may well be a forgone conclusion that tony will be elected again but at least this election will not be tampered with (Jeb Bush et all) unless old Prescott gets his postal voting system.
In conclusion
Briton = Good
America = Bad and ikky

Educate a curious American as to how the British electoral system works.
(Ignorance is interesting in that it is 100% curable.)

Very briefly...
The government is made up from 100(ish) MPs from the majority party (or coallition of parties) in parliament.
The leader of the party that forms a government is the prime minister (in theory first amoungst equals)
The government requsts that the queen disolves parliament, this signals a general election.
Every MP has a constituency. containing very roughly 100,000 people there are some quite large differences in this number...
everyone over 18 gets to vote for their constituency MP.
The queen asks someone usually the leader of the party with a majority to form a government.
That's basically it...

We should all vote for the Monster Raving Looney Party, that way the country will be a laughing stock to other nations on purpose, rather than unintentional due to by said current PM Blair.
