What if John Kerry...

...lost the popular vote but won the electoral college vote?

I think there would be a vast controversy as before, yet Republicans could not really complain about it - they would just have to grit their teeth silently. Democrats would be embarrased that, by their logic, their candidate "stole" the election - not that they would try to prevent him from taking office.

Opinions?

I personally think the idea behind this thread is pointless and funny; funny not because of the idea, but because of the apparent feeling of hopelessness and wishful thinking of the person.

You still have a lot of time left before the election, why don't you stop stressing over it and relax? The time will come when it's held, don't waste your time hoping for things. If you want to see Kerry or Bush win, why don't you go join the people trying to get them elected?

Heh, what goes around comes around. But seriously, if it did happen, I wouldn't doubt that they would overhaul the electoral college system. It certianly wouldn't be out of the question.

By what logic did Democrats think that the other candidate steal the last election? It had, as far as I can recall that is, nothing to do with Bush winning the election despite having less popular votes, but rather with votes being counted incorrectly and people being unlawfully disenfranchised.

I'm sorry. You're right.

I have more hope than most people I know that Kerry will be elected. I just want to find out what people would think if this hypothetical situation arose.
