i personally am agnostic..which is the belief in the POSSIBILITY of god but the refusal to follow a path of religion. i believe in it for many reasons, mainly because i cant believe firmly in something that can't be proved, but also that i hate blind views (i.e. blind religiousness or blind atheism). i just was wondering how many of you out there are like me, and your viewpoints on it.
This is such an interesting thread.

Ah, the perfect opportunity to drone on about my religious history...
First I had no religion, obviously. When I was about 6, being told to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in school, I talked about it with my parents and they explained what the "under God" phrase was about, and that many people didn't believe in God, so why should we have to say it? I immediately decided that the idea of a God was ridiculous, and so I was extremely atheistic for a while. After a bit of that I kind of forgot about it and so, while ostensibly atheist, I was really no-religion again. When I was 9 and 10, my mom's employers, a friendly couple, began developing personal ties with our family and we started going to church with them. I never really had any opinion of it - it was just something we did for a while. I definitely never picked up any Christian belief. By this time my no-religion was beginning to resemble agnosticism. Then at the age of 12, during the summer before 7th grade, I discovered Wicca. I followed it devoutly for about a year. But by the time I started 8th grade I had become kind of sloppy, had missed a few Sabbats without celebrating; it was slipping out of my daily life. I halfheartedly called myself Wiccan for awhile longer, then decided that my true beliefs were so undefined - so much BASED upon a lack of definition - that I was really agnostic. That was what I was until just recently. During the last month, I somehow felt something missing. I noticed that all those happy Christians were starting to really irritate me for some reason. Then a friend, who didn't know anything about it, sent me a song with a line saying something about getting closer to God. I took a hint from the universe and dedicated a nice long pre-bedtime quarter hour to thinking about my faith. That's what I call it now. It's not really religion because it doesn't follow any existing code and just doesn't have that religious, ordered feel. As soon as I redefined myself that way, everything fell back into place. Now I'm 14 and I just finished my first day of 9th grade, and at peace again.

Religion has good intentions, but too often people make it the base of their lifestyle and attempt to impose it on others. (i.e. Religious Right, Al Qaeda).
Personally, Agnosticism has made my life a lot easier. Don't lie to yourself if you don't believe what people tell you has existed since the beginning of time. However, don't close your mind to the possibility that a god might exist. Take life in stride, be good to one another and life will be OK.
If only our friends in the White House and Al Qaeda could think the same way.

Agnostic, right here. I'm one because- and I apologize to those of you who might consider this blasphemy or heresy- well, I've got no proof that there is/are god/s.
Well, there's my two cents. Go buy something nice with them.
I'm an agnostic.
I shift between believing in God and being a complete Atheist however. The best way to define my beliefs is that if there is a God, He would probably want each of us to live our lives without any form of oppression- including organised religion.

I'm an agnostic in the small-a atheist sense. I don't pretend to have enough informaion to know whether there's a higher power or not, so as far as I'm concerned the jury's still out on the matter.
