Bush vs Kerry - An NS Mod's Cry For Homework Help!

Okay... asbestos undies... check.

Righto, yours truly has two days to poll at least ten people, with demographic information and the answer to one simple political question: Who would you vote for this November? President Bush or Senator Kerry?

Now, before everyone and their grandmother posts, there are some limitations as to who is eligible for this poll:

-The poll was originally just for Americans over 18. This has now been changed! Anybody and everybody can gimme their opinion, I just need the demographic info to keep it straight who's where!

For your input to be counted in this poll, you will need to answer all the demographic questions. If you are uncomfortable posting to the thread, you can send me your responses to my moderator email: RepProdtheMod@gmail.com

First name:

What state/country do you live in?:

Which gender are you?:

What is your age? (Under 18; 18-24; 25-35; 36-45; 46-55; 56+):

What is your annual income? (Less than US$20,000; 20,000-40,000; 40,000-65,000; 65,000-100,000, or More than US$100,000)

What is your level of education? (No college; some college/currently enrolled; degree; or graduate school)

What is your ethnicity? (Caucasian/non-Hispanic; Hispanic; Asian/Pacific Islander; African American; or Other)

And lastly, the big question: In the upcoming election, who do you think you will vote for? President George Bush, Senator John Kerry, or undecided/other?

Before anyone gripes at me for the rather sorry lack of options on the education and ethnicity questions (not to mention the actual poll question itself!), please bear in mind that I can't change the poll my teacher provided.

Thanks in advance!

Heh heh, I've got input now from the following states:

California
Connecticut
New Mexico
Iowa (two people!)
Arkansas
North Dakota

Why do I get the feeling my contribution to the collective class poll data is going to be a lot more diverse than that of my classmates? ^_^

Current score:
Kerry- 5
Bush- 1
Undecided- 1

C'mon, people! Just looking around these forums reveals that both sides have some serious followings on Nationstates! :D

Trying to scare people into voting for him by "if you vote for kerry the terrorists will kill us all" is the worst tactic. And the pres and vp should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

Indeed, it's a "straw poll" (yay for using chapter 4 terms from class!) Unscientific, and not to be considered as a heavily legit thing =)

Thanks to everybody who submitted their replies =) The 'official' polling for my assignment is over, but I decided that I'm going to keep this poll open, largely out of my own curiousity, and because my teacher is rather interested in what my results will be if I've got a longer period of time to gather info in. (She's also trying to figure out what the heck it is that draws such a "large, diverse group" to Nationstates- I told her that Max has been trying to figure that out for two years now =p)

I'm going to go back and edit my first post in a second, because since the "official" polling is over, I can tweak what I'm asking a little to open the poll up to more of the NS players =)

Depending on how crazy it gets, I'm going to try and keep this going until the election =D

Alright, as promised, here's my report on the poll! Still waiting on the overall totals from all three of the polisci classes, but it shouldn't be much longer!

Activity Report #2
Well now, where should I begin? Well, we were asked to poll at least ten people regarding the upcoming election. While I figured most everyone in Group #2 would ask coworkers or friends or family, I took what my sister did up a level. While she pestered our online friends via mIRC, I opted instead to "open the gates of Hell", and went straight for the Nationstates General Forum to get my data sample from a much wider audience.
As more than a few people I polled commented, the poll was totally a straw poll- I was basically doing the online equivalent of walking up to folks on the street and asking "Hey, Bush or Kerry?" leaving little room for other options. Very unscientific, but still useful for getting a general feel for the public's opinion. Two days and over thirty responses from twenty-one different states later, the results indicated that Kerry was the favored candidate by a margin of more than two-to-one. (I have good reason to believe this data is not yet a very accurate reflection of the Nationstates public opinion, because I have seen my fellow moderators break up a great deal of "debates" on the subject between Bush supporters and Kerry supporters who can't argue in a civil manner.)
The results of our group (Which Shannon, Wes, and I have jokingly discussed seceding from) also gave Kerry the lead, if by a much narrower margin, as did the overall results from our class. Unfortunately these results cannot be used to gauge the outcome of the election- most of the people polled were 18-25 years old, Caucasian/non-Hispanic college students. This is a poor sample for public opinion as a whole since the class data comes largely from only a tiny fragment of the population, and a fragment that doesn't generally vote to boot! In addition, at least two members of Group #2 (who shall remain nameless) further invalidated the overall data by essentially making their ten answers up- one admitted to outright making his answers up, while another said he 'answered for' his family, his girlfriend's family, and so on.
From our results, it's hard to tell if people are voting for Bush or Kerry based on their actual ideologies (where they stand on various issues like the environment, gay marriage, abortion, international stuff, and so on), or simply because they want Bush out of office and figure anybody who is Not-Bush would be a better choice. Out of curiosity, I intend to keep my thread on the Nationstates forums open until November to see what the results will be of taking opinions from such a wide audience over a greater span of time. (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=357238) Since the assignment itself is over, I have also thrown the poll open to essentially everybody. (I've added an "Under 18" category for age, and have asked that people who respond tell me what state or country they are from.) It should be interesting to see what the international players have to say, since Nationstates has a great deal of players who live in Canada, Europe, and Australia!

Just a reminder, folks, I'm still taking poll responses!

30 year old white male, $75,000 (hard earned two jobs) BS degree, love my freedom, its is not though free. Brother is a f-15 fighter pilot, father Deputy Marshall, I am a fireman. Kerry is a joke. He doesn't stand for anything but what he thinks you want to hear. Wake up people, Bush!

What is your annual income? (Less than US$20,000; 20,000-40,000; 40,000-65,000; 65,000-100,000, or More than US$100,000) 65-100K (Little over 65k)... Oh and single too! :-)

What is your ethnicity? (Caucasian/non-Hispanic; Hispanic; Asian/Pacific Islander; African American; or Other) Caucasian

And lastly, the big question: In the upcoming election, who do you think you will vote for? President George Bush, Senator John Kerry, or undecided/other? I KNOW I will vote for Bush.

May I also say that I plan to vote based on personal experience not because "thats what my parents are going to do" or because of what the TV thinks I should do. I have met both the current bush and his father, and they are both good men, and in my personal opinion there is NO ONE better to be running our country.

But then you dont get to see things on TV like when Bush gets onto Air Force One, the first thing he does is make sure all of the secret service members eat before he even orders his own food.

Both "W" and his father are great men, and I look forward to 4 more years of a job well done from him.

As for the largest debate, Iraq, having been there myself both before and after, I must say this. Well done gentlemen. I know the rest of the world can not see past the cloud the television pants in front of Iraq, but I know better, and I'm damn proud of the work we have done, and continue to do.

Good day

What state/country do you live in?: France

Which gender are you?: Male

What is your age?: 18-24 (22, to be precise)

What is your annual income?: Uh... I earn just over 8000FF a month... Multiply that by 12 months, convert it into Euros (I still think in Francs ;) ) then into US dollars and you should get your answer.

What is your level of education? I have a Masters' Degree, and I am still continuing postgraduate studies.

What is your ethnicity? Caucasian

And lastly, the big question: In the upcoming election, who do you think you will vote for? President George Bush, Senator John Kerry, or undecided/other?
If I were a US citizen, I would probably vote Kerry. I would definitely not vote Bush, and the problem with voting for someone else is that it would mean fewer votes for Kerry. Even if I do feel there are other political parties whose ideals are closer to mine than are Kerry's...
