Indianapolis -- Attendees at a pair of noon time rallies on Monument Circle displayed their support for American troops in Iraq in vastly different ways.

On the southside of the monument, dozens of Hoosiers lined up to sign a book of support for the troops amidst a background of patriotic country music, flags and banners that proclaimed opposition to terrorism and that John Kerry was supported by the communist party.

"I think Kerry should be tried for treason," said Edytha Hall, who described herself as a grandmother of eight. She equated Kerry with Osama Bin Laden. "I think he's a traitor. I think he's an evil, evil man. I think he should be shot." Gesturing to the opponents of the war, who recognized their own solemn demonstration on the northside of the monument, Hall said, "Soldiers are fighting for them so they can show their stupidity."

On the other side, silently, dozens of observers quietly walked among one thousand pairs of boots displayed on the monument steps, one pair of boots for the life of each soldier lost in Iraq.

"We're just trying to hold the government accountable, make them see the reality of what is this war and when you see these boots here today, this is the reality," said Jeri Sheese of Military Families Speak Out. Her husband served a year in Iraq. "To be American is to be able to ask questions, to have they freedom to say what you want to say and to say we're un-American because we question the war is a contradiction."

Apparently, if you protest against the Iraq war, you're a traitor to the U.S. and you should be shot.

Ah yes, Ms. Hall, Kerry is a traitor because he speaks out against the Bush Administration and the Iraq War. He's just as bad as Osama.

In the U.S. today, you can have only one opinion, and if it doesn't agree with the Bush Administration, you are a traitor to these here United States.

I think these people need to go and re-read the United States Constitution, more specifically, the First Amendment. In it, you'll see that we CAN protest the government and still be great Americans.

You are anti-Semitistic, correct? Wouldnt that make you happy, that the US is theoretically turning into Nazi Germany? Just a question.

Who knows? Nowadays too many nations are being compared to Nazi Germany, and I find it confusing and exhausting. So in my opinion, until there'll be race-laws in the USA let those americans do whatever they please.
They do it anyway.

Lol.. coming from Von Witzleben, I'll take that as a compliment.

In the original post Misterio takes one womans emotionally laced comments and attributes them to the nation as a whole. Bit of a stretch I think.

And in what way do YOU, Misterio, believe that the US is turning into Nazi Germany?

As for your next question, yes, I do believe we are SLOWLY turning into Nazi Germany. The Patriot Act is slowly taking away our civil liberties (read it before responding to me about this), people think you're un-American if you speak out against the (mis)administration, Bush is spreading lies about going into a war, calling countries like Iraq "threats to the U.S." when they're not. People are blindly following Bush and believing everything he is telling them.

So yeah, I think we are SLOWLY starting to turn into Nazi Germany.

Ok, please give me examples how the Patriot act is slowly taking away our civil liberties. You made the accusation, so Im suggesting that you back that up, rather than you telling me to "read it before responding to me"

I wouldn't say they are turning into Nazi Germany, however there are some things that do ring true of both. Such as this blind nationalism. I mean we all love our countries, but love of country should not mean blind support for a corrupt or misguided government. Certainly the majority of the world and 50% of Americans would agree that the USA is going down a slippery slope and the wrong path.

They are also certainly being isolated more and more from the rest of the world because of these insane policies of preemption and "with us or against us" type attitudes.

However, Nazi Germany I think is a little strong. I think the 50% of Americans who do subscribe to these new and stark policy changes that have been put forth by the current administration mean well. I just truly believe they don't understand what the ramifications of these policy decisions could be in the short but more importantly the long run. There seems to be some what of an arrogance from these types that defy history and they believe some how they will be the exception. I just wish they seen it, but they don't.

The good news is a lot of Americans do see it. Just as many see the danger of these policies as those who appear to be completely oblivious to them. History is a pretty good indicator.. perhaps more people need to read what happens to regimes that have in the past taken such stark policy differences to the rest of the world.

Although, I don't even think that will be their downfall, given enough time I'm sure it would be.

However, I believe they will implode economically long before the rest of the world just gets so fed up of their nationalism and tunnel vision. The IMF has sent a number of warnings to the USA that they have to get their spending under control. I mean the tax cut that Bush is handing out to the top 10% richest people in America and the war on Iraq, hell every thing they are spending at this point is being paid for by China and Japan.

Sooner or later these other countries are going to stop lending them money. It's like a credit card company, sooner or later they cut you off if you can't pay at least the interest. At the rate the national debt is going and coupled with the warnings from the IMF, I believe they are in trouble if they don't do some thing and do it fast. When the IMF starts sending you warnings, you know you are headed for trouble.

Dumbass the patriot act is taking away our civil liberties, as of now we have no fourth ammendment, or did you forget about the fourth ammendment, "No unwarrented searches" the patriot act allows the FBI to go into your house or search anywhere without a warrant.

So why dont you do some research before going to the polls and voting Bush this year.

Fine. It's still an extremely small minority. America is not turning into Nazi Germany. In fact, that's probably one of the most remarkably stupid things I've heard on these forums.
