I'm sorry if I'm a bit out on the dates or messed up with the process (I'm Australian, my knowledge of the US political process is limited) but the idea is simple, what will be the hot topic in the US in 2050?

Certainly the ageing population. You are going to face that. The trend is also there in the US - though not as much as in Europe due to the population growth of the US. But it is going to be a key issue. It already is in Japan and Europe and you won´t get around it as well.

Since the old neocon fogies will be dead by then and my generation will be in control, it will most likely be social issues.

Transhumanism and environmental destruction, definitely. Nature is going to take on some heavy duty assaults with the technolgoy they're working on now.
