Any fans here?
I listen to bands such as Emperor, Burzum (duh), Nokturnal Mortum, Dub Buk, Venom, (old) Mayhem, Immortal, Bathory, Negura Bunget, (old) Dimmu Borgir, Leviathan, Weakling, Darkthrone, etc.

While I listen to lots of different genres of music, I also like black metal. I like Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Venom, and Bathory (R.I.P. Quorthon) from your list. I also like Cradle of Filth, King Diamond, and My Dying Bride, though I'm not sure of MDB counts as black metal.

Cradle Of Filth \m/ must admit tho any metal is good not just black... and.... ROCK IS DEAD!!!
I love Children of Bodom. But someone here already told me they didn't think they were black metal. I think they're pretty similar to a lot of black metal bands. And they kick serious ass.

I second that, I heart Children of Bodom bigtime. I like Opeth and In Flames a lot too, although they're not Black..

Yeah, I like Emperor and Mayhem a lot.

CoB are where power metal meets black metal. I'm not a big fan myself because I think they are too cheesy. My favourite metal is Opeth.

Is it true that CoB regularly get top ten hits in the Finnish charts?

Bal-Sagoth if you want epic story telling (aka power metal) with slow rythmic black metal. :)
Alex Laiho is, in my opinion, just an Yngwie (Malmsteen) rip-off. He uses the vary same scales and modes, just with different tunings. I don´t mind CoB at all, I even have a couple of songs of them but they are not anything special, at least I think so.
And oh, you just HAVE to love those Ruthless reviews! :D At least look at the pics, it´s hilarious! :D Now I´m no better, me enjoying Power Metal and all, but those pics man... solid! ;)

Like Emporer, Darkthrone, Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Slayer and Opeth. Prefer Prog Metal though.

I like some stuff some people would call Black Metal. E.g Opeth.
But the Neo-nazi/murder side of things tends to put me off many bands.

While I'm a huge fan of proper thrash like Slayer, Testament, Death and Sepultura, Black Metal just takes itself way too seriously. It's like a sick little religion of pretentious pseudo-musicians that can't really be bothered to find actual talented vocalists. A while ago I (legally, cough cough) downloaded a compilation of Scandinavian Extreme Metal songs, and out of 24 I found there were maybe 4 or 5 that were listenable, and then only because they were either so bad they were funny, or they were not really what I'd call extreme. One sounded a lot like Hatebreed and another so like Kreator I looked the band up to see if Mille Petrozza was singing.
There's good and bad in every music form (possibly excepting boy bands) but Black Metal has more than it's fair share of boring dirges and nonsense.

Darkthrone is the only band of those I've ever even heard of, but haven't listened to their music. Are they dark metal.. or black musicians that play metal?

Nevermind, the post prior to mine answered my question. I've always known it as Death, Speed or Thrash metal.
