It is just fine as it is. Millions try to get here every year from all over the world. What does that say about the countries they want to leave?

I had to put something for everyone. I tried to pick some extremes. I'm sad it only let me put 10 countries, cause I like Canada and Belgium and Finland too. Maybe I'll make another one next week.
I say that we should follow the Netherlands example or as someone said America 200 years ago.
An America where everyone thinks like me. No - on the other hand, we should keep 2-10 liberals on every college campus so we never forget.
We have to move forward while adhering to the principles of the Founding Fathers.

I think they meant that it was closer to the Libertarian ideals of today. Slavery was not what they meant I don't think.

Hehe, isn't that what it is now? :p
Nah, if it were like Texas, your avg sub-compact car would have to be the size of a H2. Your avg SUV's would have to be the size of a school bus. Your avg house would have to be the size of the Hearst mansion.
Everything's bigger in Texas.

Probably it wasn´t. But I wouldn´t give up the convenient life style of today for that of the 18 th century or early 19 th century. Everything has two sides. I don´t believe in a paradiese on earth.

Germany has also a lot of immigrants. I wonder why the come if Germany is really such an evil, racist country though as the political left liked to portray it not so long ago? Well, and some other countries - and I´m reffering to the Federal Republic of Germany (since 1949).

Not even close. Texas is a great land of true debate, civil disobedience, a rich and wonderful history, and a glorious culture the likes of which cannot be found anywhere else in the US.
We fought our own revolution, formed our own republic, have our own state anthem, maintain our own standing Air Force, have a larger population than most countries, and control the US's space travel through NASA. We gave the world Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin, Shiner Bock, and Dr Pepper.
Our Republic was founded on the idea that Texas belonged to the people rather than greedy special interests (though people like the Bush family are trying to taint that) and Texas never once broke a treaty with, nor sought to enslave, its native tribal inhabitants. We're friendly and gregarious and as the song says, "That's right, you're not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway".
Proud Texan, Son of the Republic, Caddo Indian.

The US today is a better country than it was itself 200 years ago.
Why, because old forms of slavery were replaced by new ones?
I'd go for Germany or France.
Wait...Texas gave the world Dr. Pepper?
Ah...so at least now I have a group to blame for that. Yuck.

Thats true....and why did they come there? Because they find Germany better than their own country. Even though there have been attacks against them in Germany in the recent past.

America 200 years ago.
Agreed. I'd say either that, or the Confederate States of America minus the slavery.
It seems there is a power struggle in this poll between the US staying as it is and becoming like the Netherlands.
By the way, I am going to create another poll in a few minutes with the same question, but different choices.

Well: in 1993 on asylum seekers.
There were simular events in other countries but of course they don´t get so much international intention. A few nasty incidents: the people guilty for them were punished.
Why doesn't anyone like Brazil?
