How long do you think we'll be in Iraq?

Special note: This isn't a pro/anti-Bush thread, or a why the war was/was not justified, etc. All I want to know is how long you think we'll be in Iraq. My estimate is...7-10 years.

I think you leave soon enough, but not before instating a pro-american Military dictator.I not bashing america,I just saying.Actually,America has gotten quite good at that.A very usefull skill.

So I'd say 5 more year.

At least 2 more years.

That is what the recruiters are telling some friends kids.

One friends kid finished basic and they wanted him to take some certain program and they told him they will guarantee him being in Iraq in 2005(He was told this early 2003).

A major military presence for at least the next 3-5 years, then scaling it back (well, replacing our soldiers with Iraqi soldier's) until we're around maybe a division, division and a half in strength there, which will stay there idnefinitely, perhaps as long as half a century, unless they are needed in another Middle Eastern country.

I honestly doubt we'll be out of Iraq within the next decade. Which sucks for our brave fighting men, and which sucks for the innocent Iraqis who are suffering because of this. :(

Nah,you guys be out as soon as you set up a pro-States dictator and make sure he has an army powerfull enough to oppress the people effectivly.Thats how it works.

Recruiters don't make policy.

If Bush wins, probably another 4 years at least. Who knows?

If civil war breaks out we may even leave sooner.

Let's see now. The US is still in Germany, Japan, and South Korea. I would say a long, long time.....just IMHO.

No,they'd never leave. The whole point of the affair was to install a pro-american dictator so as that the oil will still be around. It probably won't stabalize or lower gas proce, but the gas has to be proctected.Georgy boy is a genious, and has done alot for america, although many do not realize it.This is very important.Maybe you say that you care about peoples lives in other country and shit, but if you gave americans the choice of choosing between foreign lives and 8$ a gallon gas, they would HAVE to choose the deaths overseas. The average american cannot afford gas much higher.

Depends. Are we talking about full Iraqi autonomy, or the removal of every last U.S. soldier?

Troops Not Patrolling Streets:
Less than 2 years (we've given up plenty of neighborhoods to insurgents already so we don't have to patrol the streets)

Troops Supressing Dissent Against Our Puppet Regime:
At least 5 years, a tad more if a really big civil war breaks out and we are asked to help neutralize one of the sides

No Troops In Iraq:
When the american empire falls apart and they need to bring the troops home to crush domestic unrest (only exception is if we have a really weak president who reacts like Reagan did to the Beirut bombings when he pulled out of Lebanon, but in the post 9/11 world, that doesn't appear likely any day soon)

We would pull out of Saudi Arabia before we would do a full scale pullout in Iraq.

Either-or.
