The ouverture was written in 1836, a smart ass that knows it without a google.

ahem WHO wrote it?
When I tell it allready now, I won't amuse myself anymore with wrong answers.
I would vote for Elgar as often the music and words dont have to be related.
Wagner? Edgar i think from when i did music was late 19th/early 20th century or something, it wasnt Churchill, or Beckham, Shakespeares died about 200 years before, and i dont know who the other guys are

The real smart ass is the guy who voted for Beckham.
The real smart ass is the guy who voted for Beckham.
The two smart asses.
Of course it obviously isnt the first choice, because he would put something before it. Perhaps its Henry Purcel after it come the rediculous ones. And therefore he ran out of options and put the real one in.

Oh no, I did not ran out of options, I am a fan of classical music and could fill it in with only English composers to you know. And yes, a poll need ridiculous options to, to you to know the right composer.

So you did that to trick us. But gave away a vital piece of info, English Composer, wiping out Wagner.

Your words :)
And you also might of hinted the Henry is an English Composer adding more to my argument.
Hey someone voted for Henry, see someone agrees with me.
I already voted for Elgar so it wasnt me

Some of his music was recuperated and abused by a fascist party in Europe during the time they were in power.

Now I know who it is. Thanks for ruining my fun. :(
Will, find another one, don't wurry. Just deleted my post, when you do the same people can stil vote. Thought that you where not finding it.
Of course about 25% of test questions are B, we should go with Eric Satie, he sounds the most British. Also you obviously would disguise it between 2 well known composers to make us gloss over it.
And the fact you were giving hints show not to many people are voting for him, so Eric has the least it has to be him.

Hmm, Satie was well knowed for his Gynopedies (beautifull piano) and some special things. Would it be him?

Now you are trying to draw attention away from him. Obviously he could of wrote other things. The fact you spend so much attention on such a minor candidate shows it probably is it.

No, he is in there. Was surprised myself that he wrote it.

Considering the "Star Spangled Banner" was a drinking song, it ranks low on suprises.

LOL but true.

and an English one at that. At least have like a German one.
I actually searched google and it comes up with Thomas Augustine Arne, which isnt on the list. So whoever voted none of the above is the only winner.

No, Richard Wagner wrote the ouverture "Rule Britannia" in 1836.Question was: the music, not the text. Just like Schiller wrote the "Ode an die Freude" (well knowed as the EU anthem) and the music was composed by Beethoven.

I still have a hard time picturing a rowdy, drunken crowd singing that tune.

Are you talking about "Hail, Brittania, Brittania, rule the waves..." or are you talking about something else entirely? Because Arne did write the one I'm thinking of.
