Soccer bores me, I've never watched or played Gaelic football, I've never watched or played Aussie rules football, I don't know of any other football, so I'll have to go with American football. I enjoy watching the Huskers and my hometeam (even if my hometeam sucks).

Nooo, don't make the mistake of saying that, it tends to get certain people very annoyed. They're completely different

Incidently Rugby Union for me, I just can't seem to enjoy League.

I voted in this poll a few days ago but am just now replying to the thread.

It's all about American Football for me. In spite of not actually being a coach, I even have a playbook that I made last summer. Love those Chicago Bears. Inventers of the 4-3 formation.

Speaking of which, I'm only in my 20s but I read in an issue of ESPN the Magazine the story behind the invention of the 4-3. They were lined up in the formation of the times, the 5-2. Offenses had learned to exploit this formation by passing up the middle where the nearest cover men were the safeties. All of a sudden, nose guard Bill George, for whom #61 is retired by Chicago, stands up, drops back a little bit, and becomes the original Middle Linebacker. Imagine that: the 1st "Mike" linebacker's name was Bill. Since then, they have had such star MLB's as Dick Butkus, Mike Singletary, and curently Brian Urlacher, who admittedly does have trouble shedding blocks and sometimes guesses, but as for that "god" in Baltimore, Ray Lewis (it ticks me off when people talk about how he's so far ahead of every1 else when he is not that far ahead), he got lifted up and thrown down by an opposing FB (wish I could remember that fullback's name) and PFW's 2004 preview issue said that even Lewis is sometimes guilty of guessing a bit.

American Football is kinda like rugby with more pads seeing as it was invented when the Americans began to ignore updates in the rules from early rugby in England. It is obviously much slower and more tactical whereas rugby (particularly league) is more about stamina and speed. And league is yet to be really recognised meaning that the fans at a game tend to be must more hardcore supporters which always gives an amazing atmosphere.

All televised sports SUCK!

I have no more interst in watching someone else play than I have in watching someone else ride a rollercoaster: It is only fun if you are doing it yourself.

Then there is the fact that it is impossible to care for any particular team because each year their roster, even coach, can and does change. Hell, sometimes even their city of origin changes. Just what about any team can anyone like other than the color of their jersey?

The professionals who make up these teams are mostly male prima-donnas who have lacking morals and self discipline. Lousy role models.

Meanwhile good programs are canceled or delayed because of the inability of sport events to end on schedule.

I am forever grateful for ESPN - nw if only the other channels would get sports off the air and let ESPN handle it I'd be thrilled.

basketball: The popular sport was the invention of one man, the Canadian James Naismith (1861—1939). After graduating from McGill in 1890, he became physical director of the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. He single-handedly came up with the idea for an indoor game that football and lacrosse players could play during the winter. The first match was played on December 21, 1891. Modestly refusing suggestions that it be called "Naismith ball", he named the new sport "basket ball". In 1936 in Berlin, the proud brainfather witnessed the debut of his brainchild as an official Olympic event.

All televised sports SUCK! im sorry? all televised sports suck? wich explains perfectly y theres enough demand for them to be televised?

I have no more interst in watching someone else play than I have in watching someone else ride a rollercoaster: It is only fun if you are doing it yourself.
Ever tried being in a stand with thousands of other fans shouting their support for their team? thats more of an adrenaline rush than ull get on a roller coaster
Then there is the fact that it is impossible to care for any particular team because each year their roster, even coach, can and does change. Hell, sometimes even their city of origin changes. Just what about any team can anyone like other than the color of their jersey?
just because in NFL players do change team more regularly than other sports, dont b so general. Gary Kellys been at Leeds bout 15 seasons now. Only one english team has changed their origin as far as im aware (wimbledon).
The professionals who make up these teams are mostly male prima-donnas who have lacking morals and self discipline. Lousy role models.
So people playing rugby for the equivalent of $10,000 a yr or so and hu have 2 have full time jobs are prima donnas?. and u think ur disciplined enough to stop a 20stone man running at u at about 30mils an hr?
Meanwhile good programs are canceled or delayed because of the inability of sport events to end on schedule.

the guy who ivented bastketball was a Canadian hired by a US school to create a new sport to entertain the students.

and I did some reseach and can't find anything to support my claim about football starting in Canada, so for now I fold. but every gym teacher in Canada that I meet disagrees with you. and we often refer to the CFL's(Canadian football League) rules as the original rules.
