Naming Cars

Does anyone else here name their car or some other inanimate object?
I recently purchased a used two-door Toyota, and I'm thinking of naming it The Golden Path, from Children of Dune. Any thoughts?

I recomend Godrun or Gudrun (pronounced 'Good Run') from the Norse. While I usually have named objects in a descriptive manner ("the baby-expletive-brown expletive piece of expletive" or "the tank"), I know more than a few people who name cars, and Gudrun is the only one I've seriously considered naming one of mine.

is the toyota golden? If not that would be a pretty funny name.

No, it isn't. The Golden Path isn't literally gold. It's called the GOLDEN path because it's perfect - like, one misstep and humanity ends. It's actually pretty relevant to my life right now. But I do plan to paint a quote from Leto II in gold paint...

Heheh. Yeah, my old printer only worked because I threatened it and put it on the floor where it belonged.

My computer's Durandal, the insane computer from the Marathon games. Yes, I'm a geek. Shut up.

The quote won't be very big, it'll be on the back bumper next to the plate. And I'm quite sure I'll be the last owner. It's pretty old and worn-out. We got it for $2200.

Dune is my second favorite book, second only to Les Mis. And even if it wasn't, STAR WARS IS DEAD TO ME!

I named my 1992 Ford Ranger "Bessy" because it operates much like a massive, lumbering cow. Its top speed is comparable to a cow's, too.

Fair enough. Sometimes i too find it hard to ignore the monstrosity that is the phantom menace. A worse crime against humanity however has to be the interminable sequels/prequels to Dune that just go on and on and on with no apparent end in site, despite FH's death some years ago.

Well it IS very easy to be a pacifist when you have no enemies.

But I do plan to paint a quote from Leto II in gold paint...Consider the windows instead of the bumpers, painting on glass is pretty easy (and erasable with a razor blade) and gold is rather unforgiving of any imperfections in the underlying surface. I've owned a car with painted decoration on the windows and it isn't bad at all (well the car was bad, but the windows weren't).

No, its red. But cows are made of red meat, so it still works.

My grandfather's 2002 Ranger, on the other hand, is white with a black cap.

I completely understand. I've only read the first prequel, but I absolutely loved it. And when I read it I knew that 90% of Dune fans would hate it. Such is life. However, I still feel that the first three Dune books are some of the finest sci fi literature available. I just like Dune, period. Even the first movie... The 6 hour version of the movie. Yes.

On the other hand, I loved Star Wars. I loved it for the first 16 years of my life. Besides the first year or so, maybe. But Star Wars is just like the Matrix. The first one's the best, and everything gradually gets worse, with the possible exception of ESB. ROTJ had ewoks. Then Lucasarts stops making good games after Tie Fighter. Then the Star Wars novels start to become mainstream (yeah, there's a few good ones, sure.) Then episode one comes out, and all of humanity says "It'll be ok..." to themselves. But they're lying. Episode two comes out and now everyone KNOWS they're lying. Star Wars was once fantastic, but it's been gutted like a fish. I can enjoy all of Dune, but now I can't even enjoy A New Hope. I just can't. Darth Vader isn't a character anymore. There's no profound reason he went to the dark side. He's just a winey b1tch that misses his mommy. That's why he's evil. He wants his mommy back because she died. LAME. NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. HOLLYWOOD ENDING. I'll take Sting in a thong over that, thank you very much.

Sorry about the rant. We had Dune and Star Wars in the same thread. I didn't stand a chance.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing. I paint quite often. On a black bumper, it will work quite well. I appricate the tip, though. :D

I named my VW bus Veronica after a friend named his Betty. Not a great story, really, but there it is....

Everyone refers to her as Veronica rather than the bus, moreso than even I do. I think it's the film that was made...

My '88 Dodge Raider is called Rocky.

My bowling ball is Robbie, (its a 'rhino' make ball, so I figured Robbie Rhino worked).

My mom calls her '88 Tempo Maybelliene, after a song of the same name.

Our dishwashers have always had the name Hazel, for some odd reason.

My computer doesn't have a name, but I tend to refer to it as big blue, because its blue and freakin' heavy!

Yeah, thats about it.

Yes, Big Blue was the name of that IBM supercomputer, but mine is a home-built AMD. I have a big blue Thermaltake case, (with 7 case fans), and it weighs somewhere in the 30-40 lb. range.

Cool. Well-made home-built computers are the best. I just thought it would be amusing if you had a mac called big blue. Cannot Think of a Name figured it out.

Thats why I never really named it Big Blue simply because it's already been taken. Unfortunately, I don't know what else to call it. Unless I'm angry, then its 'piece o shit'.
