President Bush now has the blood of over 1,000 Americans (not to mention the tens of thousands of Iraqis) on his hands. Granted, Saddam Hussein was an evil bastard, and I'm glad to see his reign of terror come to an end, but I didn't want to see it end like this. The war is bankrupting our treasury, crippling our economy, tarnishing our reputation abroad, shunning even some of our staunchest allies, jeopardizing (rather than strengthening) our security (every disgusted Muslim is a possible candidate for al Quaeda membership), deeply dividing our people, and diverting time and money from issues of graver importance. Worst of all, it might be several years before we can even leave Iraq. Yet Bush still defends this war.

OK look roach busters. This thread was to remember the dead not to argue the merits of the war. I'll be glad to argue with you all night long, but somewhere else! We must always remember....

Yeah, sorry.

Anyway, let us observe a moment of silence for those who have died. :(

To those who have died in the service of the country, I salute you. Regardless of what you think of the war, they all deserve our respect.

God bless the ones serving not just in Iraq, but everywhere. And God bless the ones who have died. May their families and friends be reunited with them in heaven.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

If you don't care for the religious connotations, please ignore.

High Flight
By: John Gillespie Maggee Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
And done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of, wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence
Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along
And flung my eager craft through footless halls of air
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wing-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high unsurpassed sanctity of space
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

We toast our hearty comrades who have fallen from the skies, and were gently caught by God's own hands to be with him on high.

To dwell among the soaring clouds they've known so well before, from victory roll to tail chase at heavens very door.

And as we fly among them there we're sure to hear their plea, "Take care my friend, watch your six, and do one more roll for me."
