I'm thinking about buying a game computer. Leaving me with the obvious choice between PS2, Xbox and Gamecube. What would your choice be? Why?

Here we go again...

Personally, I would recommend the PS2. IMHO, it has a greater number of good games, I feel that its online mode is better (ie I don't have to pay Microsoft for the liberty) (if you care about online anyway) and I think it has the best controller.

Also, I can't see any difference in the graphics on any of the machines. But that's just my opinions.

i personally think, out of the consoles, xbox is the way to go because of future compatibility with other systems and games. but if you can and have the money, definatly go for a PC.

XBOX....

halo 2 is in stores november 9th, that alone should be enough reasons to buy xbox....

Reasons why XBox is better

* Includes a 8 giga-bite hard drive
* Faster online gaming- XBox Live
* Supports more controller ports
* Has Halo, game of the year in 2002
* Plays DVDs with better quality
* Allows you to download music and listen to it while playing certain games
* Technical features are much better compared to PS2

XBOX....

And Killzone should be out soon for the PS2. And I assure you, it is good.

Reasons why XBox is better

* Includes a 8 giga-bite hard drive
* Faster online gaming- XBox Live

How is this faster? Surely the 'net connection is the crucial thing.

* Supports more controller ports

Buy a multi-tap. And the Gamecube has 4 ports, same as the XBox.

* Technical features are much better compared to PS2

So? To quote my friend, "We have bigger number so its more fun!"

You know I was a huge playstation fan, so I was so excited about getting my PS2, oh, 3 and a half years ago. To this date, the only games I have played on it that haven't sucked are sports games. Everything else seems to be graphics but no game play. I just picked up the new Resident Evil a month or two back. I was excited. I loved one and two on PSOne, and three was alright. What I bunch of crap that game was. I played it for 30 minutes and tossed it in the closest. Maybe I'll get $5 for it at some future garage sale.

You can't tell the differenec O_o get some glasses dude.
The PC is by far the best gaming machine you can have. It can do everything a console does and then some. Of crouse this can be very expesnive to keep up to date.
It comes down to a matter of taste really. If your more into Shooting games the XBOX simply has the best with games like HALO and HALO 2 comming out soon. And it has the best sports games. Most of the games on XBOX look great with very high framerates. Lag on a XBOX is rare. The best Racing games are on XBOX I don't care what you say they just are. XBox live in THE BEST! It ALWAYS WORKS! There is NO LAG what so ever. And you can voice chat on all games which makes it worth thet 50 bucks. But you have to get Cable or DSL for it to work.

The GameCube Has an excelent mix of games. You normally don't find crappy games on the GC. As Nintendo just doesn't let shit on there system. It's rare for a GC game to get below a 6 out of 10 in alot of gaming magazines. The Grahpics are amazing in some games like Mario Kart DD and Star Fox Adventures, The Framerate can be flux on higher end games like Splinter cell and starfox adventures but will normally stay nice and high. One of the games that shows off the GC's power would be Rouge Leader III which runs at over 18 Million Polygons a second which doesn't mean anything but PS2 games have never gone higher than 9 million ( jack 2) The GC is a great choice for a good mix of games. And Nintendos 1st Party games are a bit kidish. But you cant say a SSBM or Mario Kart DD fest itsn't fun. There is online play for some GC games and Warp Pipe will let you play most LAN games.

The PS2 has a fucking massive amount of games. The RPGs on the PS2 are there strong point. But FF sucks anyway :D I used to own a PS2. Low Framerates and bad graphics are what turn me off. Some PS2 games look incredible but alot just suck. Most of the best games out there you will also find on the XBOX or PC. PS2's are also not built as well as there Microsoft and Nintendo Counter Parts. Bringing it back from earlyer. PS2 games do not normally look as good. The Infamous Disc Error is a bad point. Load times tick me off. IT TAKES TO LONG!

The GC and XBOX load games much faster than the PS2 this is not debatele.

The best choice would probably be a GC as if your getting a new PC you can get the better games from consoles on your PC. The GC has some great games. Mario Kart DD,SSBM,StarFox Adventures,Rouge Leader. Just to name a few. The GC also costs the least.
And XBOX would be a 2nd best choice. It costs less than a PS2 and you get more bang for your buck as you can save music on it. The XBOX S Controller is amazing. You can't not love it!
The PS2 is overpriced.
PS2-$179
XBOX-$150
GC-$100( comes with memory card)
It's between the XBOX and GC as they are the to best values.

KillZone will not be as good as HALO 2.

Not on XBOX live! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE has broadband.

Multi Taps cost extra money and most PS2 games are 2 player anyway. Who wants to split a screen more than 4 ways anyway O_o

The RPGs on the PS2 are there strong point.

Which ones? I've always been a huge RPG fan, and PS2 seems like a barren wasteland for the genre. FF went down the tubes after 7 or 8. 10 is just garbage, and 10.2 is even worse.
Cannot think of a name

Once upon a time there was this thing called Jaguar, and it had the biggest number of all, but no one cared 'cause the games sucked.

If you want to spend that much money for a Halo machine, cool. But they have to come out with other games now and then. Crimson Skies was cool, but didn't seem to have legs.

I will give the caveat that I do think that the online for XBox is better because you can communicate with other players no matter what game they are playing and it won't let you on with a *&$^%^&# gameshark. Pay for what you get, ultimately.

I see your Halo 2 and raise it one Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas. Sure it'll come out on XBox....next year......pfffft.

Really comes down to games. Look at the games. If the XBox has more games you want to play, buy that. If the PS2 has more (chances are greater), buy that. If the Gamecube has more games, you are 12 years old or a girl (oh yeah, gonna get in trouble for that....and not undeserved...)

OUT OF MY ASS PREDICTION: Why did Sony over kill on its harddrive? (40GB vs XBox's 8) Well, Sony does have a huge library of film content and music content, and they do want the PS2 to be a central set top piece....online video rentals for regular people who don't want to watch thier movies on thier computer??? The final frontier........

reasons to buy Xbox - halo, plays dvd's, but you have to get this little adapter thinggy
reasons not to buy Xbox - controler feels like a shoebox, really expensive.

reasons to buy PS2 - best controller in my opinion, final fantasy series, GTA, DVD without little adapter thinggy.
reasons not to buy PS2 - doesn't have smash brothers or halo

reasons to buy cube - SUPER SMASH BROTHERS, mario golf.
reasons not to buy game cube - takes a little bit to get used to the controller, no DVd.

in my opinion, get yourself a freakin PC, but if you dont have the cash, go for the cube, its cheap and has in my opinion the best game out there, smash brothers.

I like Ps2 but the other systems were good.
If Sega Saturn was still working I'd say that. It had the best games. Maybe they will bring them to Xbox or Ps2.
Games like:
The Horde
DragonForce
Mystaria
GunGriffon
Shining into the Holy Arc or Shining Fiorce games 3, etc
And many more.

Bush Game cube has good action games like Metriod/Smash bros.

I would pick a Dreamcast.
even though its not supported anymore, imo it has some of the funnest and original games, and new games are still coming out for it in japan. it has just as good graphics as a ps2, and that VMU memory card this is teh shiznit!
it also still has some games that you can play online, it has 5 online games, for a 'dead' console thats pretty good! GC only has PSO lmao.
plus its a great machine for emulation and homebrew games.

I gotta say Gamecube.

Why?

1] It's cheaper than the others.

2] One will never have to wait with sweaty anticipation for a $300 GC2. When technology advances, Nintendo will simply come out with a new console with a new look and still be $150 tops.

3] The Nintendo company in general. Shit, man, even the original NES is still a sought after prize in a world where "Antique" and "Computer" should never be uttered in the same sentence.

4] All the good stuff you can get on the PS2 (the Tony Hawk series, etc) are available on the GC.

5] For the parents: Gamecube has a wider selection of kid friendly games that aren't too bad for adult play either. (Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker comes to mind)

6] One word: Metroid

7] Those mini-CDs are cute.

8] Who needs to play on the internet ... I mean ... really. Pop some corn, grab a couple of beers (or sodas, whatever), throw in Pikimin 2 or Metroid Prime and have a nice evening.

9] The Game Boy Advance is the best hand-held gaming console ever and you can use it in conjunction with the Game Cube to enhance many of the GC games.

10] Check out the Nintendo eReader.

I could go on and on. It's a damn fine system.

No new systems are comming out until 2005 at the earlyest.
No they are not better they are to small and the layout is retarded.
The XBOX IS A better build machine and thats also a fact.

The GC is the best by far. For The Reasons Stated above. But XBOX does own in the FPS.

Get a PS2, because it can do more than just play games. It can also play CDs and DVDs. You also have a wider selection of games to choose from with a PS2 because you can play PS1 games on it, too. My brother has a PS2 and it has never acted up or broken down, but I know a few people that got an X-Box and had to take it back right away because it wasn't working properly.

I'm gonna have to say Gamecube. Everyone talks about it PS2 and X-Box beign abel to play DVDs and CDs. So what? You don't buy a console for the extra things it can do, you buy it for the games. PS2 only has more games because it's been out longer. X-Box is a computer with a little hardrive, easily modded, and a big X on it. Nintendo is video games. Without the NES we wouldnt' be here today. Nintendo is more reliable for better quality games and continued character lines. If you want to see a difference in graphics. Rent Resident Evil: Zero for GC. No other game can compare in grpahical quality. And the voice acting is pretty good, suprising for an RE game.

If you got the cash go X-Box. If you don't go GameCube. I use to be a total Nintendo fanboy, but I'm more open now. I'm surprised I'm even suggesting an X-Box.
But anyways I'm not saying PS2 is that it is about a year outdated with technology. Plus it is a wasteland of games no-one plays.
X-Box lets out a few bad games every once in awhile, but they seem to be trying avoiding that. It is kinda big so make sure you have a place to put it. The W and B buttons are not in the best place, but I got use to it reasonablily quick. Don't quote me on this but I've heard X-Box Live is better than whatever Sony uses.
GameCube is a good, cheap, realiable system. It is very well made. I've dropped my controller dozens of times and it hasn't broken. I know a guy that dropped his GC on the floor twice from five feet and it came out kicking. Nintendo's first-party games normally break the norm unlike everyone elses' games. Games like Pikmin, Animal Crossing, and Super Monkey Ball really set it apart. Plus the controller is quite good. You never get confused with which button your pushing because they all are different shapes. The Z, D-pad, and C stick aren't the best in the world but I got use to it. Wasn't extremly hard. Plus the Wavebird is awesome. And GC's adaption with the GBA is amazing. Like in Animal Crossing. When you have a NES game you can just send it over to the GBA and now it has a game on it you can take around with out a game pak.

Whoa. I need to get going on my homework.

Between Halo, Morrowind and Knights of the Old Republic alone, X-box is the superior system. GC is pretty nice as well. Just don't get a PS2, it's not worth it. I want Bill Gates to buy out Nintendo so Sony can be scorched from the Earth like Sega before it.

It's just PC games for me, personally. But if you need a console...

I suggest a PS2. Many XBox games are also available for PC and GC lacks variety. All three systems are getting out-dated, but with a PS2, at least, you get a DVD player and all PS1 games. If you chose to get a PS3, your old PS2 games will still work. I don't know if Xbox offers that.

Also, don't forget - PS2 will play all the good Final Fantasy games except FFTA, and you can get a PC emulator for that. Eleven doesn't count as a good one. Trust me, I wasted two months of my life on that "game".

Personally I own a PS2. Great selection of games, better controller IMO than the X-Box. I just don't get people buying the X-Box for the sake of one game i.e. Halo. Don't get me wrong, I've played it and while it's a great game, buying an X-box just for the privilage of doing so is a bit silly. PS2 has a much better selection of games, maybe none of them are as good as Halo, but there ain't no chance of me shelling out a couple of hundred squid just to play one game....

First post... yay.

First off, I'd like to say I'm an Xbox owner, and therefore biased. Xbox has some great games and the best graphics hardware. The Xbox Live online service rarely lags (I've got mid-range cable, non-dedicated- not sure what other users would experience) and the times I'm online, I have the time of my life. Literally. I laughed until I thought I would soil myself while playing Rainbow Six 3.

Now the bad news. Single-player games are alright, but if you can't go online (hopefully you have broadband), you're missing a lot. And you'll have to wade through a lot of hype for new games (which is par for the course). Personally, I thought Halo single-player sucked. It's the same room, with different stuff in it over and over. I'm thinking that Bungie's going to screw up and lose the reason Halo was so popular by introducing new junk to Halo 2, but that's just my pessimistic self.

So, if you want good online titles, have a shooter fetish, and enjoy a good RPG, grab an Xbox.

Don't touch a Gamecube unless you're seven years old (shields up). Ugh. I believe in loyalty to a brand (mine was Sega), but this is madness. You'll only see a lot of bright colors and mind-altering mushrooms. There are a few gems, and the Gamecube is cheap enough, but just get a friend to buy one and come over once in a while.

PS2? I think Sony is a corrupt corporation, because, in my mind, they killed the Dreamcast. Yes, it was technologically inferior. Yes, it didn't have the nation-buying power of Sony behind it. But it had some great games.

I stray from my point. Sony is the mini-Xbox, meaning that it (generally) has the same types of games, but with less graphical quality. However, Sony has a lot of titles. A lot, and many are exceptional. And Sony screws you for $100 (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) for a hard drive they just didn't want to put in. Good business? Probably. Looking out for the customer? No. And don't give me any of that "I love Final Fantasy crap." It sucks now. In retrospect, FFVII was the best, but still outlandishly overrated. FFX/X-2 just has pretty girls. Try playing Chrono Trigger for SNES, and you'll see what Square WAS capable of.

They are under trial in several countries and they threaten the governments into forgetting about their mafi-style behavior. I think Microsoft is usually accepted as the most corrupt corporation in the world.

Even with the games costing more I'd still be better off financially. I used to buy every game I had the money for, but after too many crappy games I decided to buy only those games that really have proved themselves. As a consequence I never buy the latest games when they've just been released, always wait a few months to see what the feedback is like. And all I need are 3 cool games and that can't cost that much.

And now I'm leaning towards getting an Xbox because I love rpgs, especially Morrowind and nothing beats Baldurs Gate!!

Gamecube rocks. Maybe it's because I like the most games on it out of all the systems, but there's a bunch of slick stuff about the 'Cube:

- No loading time in any game I've come across. Load time- for me- ranges from kinda inconvient to really makin' me angry.

- Sweet games! I'm a diehard Nintendo fan, so the continuation of traditional Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games is awesome news for me, especially the new spins they've put on the old titles (like a new method of gaming and sweet graphics in Metroid Prime) in addition to other games like Tales of Symphonia.

- I hate to contradict myself and sell my system on a single game, but I have no choice. Four words: Super Smash Bros. Melee, possibly one of THE BEST games ever created. Everyone who I've come across who likes PS2 or Xbox say that SSBM is one of their favorite games.

Having said that, some of the downsides to the 'Cube include not the greatest web connection (I've heard about it, but never tried online gaming), some people complain the games are designed for fourth-graders, and not so many first-person shooters, racing games, or sports games- not to mention that the Final Fantasy series completely blows away all of the RPGs on the Gamecube...

Anyways, just get your hands on a Gamecube. We need more 'Cube players out there!

I own both an xbox (currently waiting for Fable to come out), and a gamecube ( which in my opinion is worth buying just to own Zelda: WW, as well as the resident evil exclusives.)

i (rather stupidly) traded my ps2 for my gamecube, but i'm happy with the choice i made.

Hmmm... OK I think your post was reasonable, but if Sony is a corrupt corporation what is Microsoft? They have more than the nation-buying power. They are under trial in several countries and they threaten the governments into forgetting about their mafi-style behavior. I think Microsoft is usually accepted as the most corrupt corporation in the world.

Heh... something that I should have put in... I'm a Mac owner, so I should dislike Microsoft with almost every fiber of my being... shame on me... -sigh-.

There are several things you want to know if you are getting a console

1)What are you using it for?
a)I am using it to play RPGs and other such games, all by my lonesome.
Wundebar! Get a PS2 or an Xbox, or if you want a better system to play it on, buy a friggin computer that can run morrowind(see: "all computers recently built")
b)I am using it to play online games
Shut up, go get a computer, we don't need you here.
c)I am using it to go to parties and play multiplayer games with friends sitting there
Brilliant, just go buy the gamecube, there is no question about it. The entire system reeks of party, you can fit a Gamecube, four controllers, games, power cords and A/V cables, and memory card, and hell, ANYTHING you need to play, in a small box roughly the size of an Xbox

2)What genre am I playing?
a)RPG
Computer, second place is toss up between XBX and PS2
b)FPS
Buy a computer
c)Online Mul-
Buy a computer!
d)Multiplayer
Buy a computer
e)Sports
PS2 or GCN
f)I'm a slap-happy modder who wants to do pointless things
That's great, go buy a Computer
g)Survival Horror
Why? But if thats your alley, PS2 in a huge way

I think its funny how people are claiming a game that hasn't come out yet is better than another game that hasn't come out yet? Remember Doom3? Wasn't THAT supposed to be good? what did we get? The easiest, most retarded game I have ever played(Someone switched "dark" and "scary" in their book)

Gamewise, we can look at this

Gamecube:
SSM:Melee
MP/Echoes
Pikmen 2, if thats your thing
StarFox2, release date nov 7th, mark your calendars!
Mario Kart: DoubleDash!!
Mario Party
Viewtiful Joe/2

A very high party game tilt

Xbox:
Halo
Halo 2, unless they suck it up
Fable, if they actually release it this time

So, FPS, but don't get a XBX for Halo 2, just get a computer, it'll run better, faster, and you'll have more people to play with, or, just wait a couple years for Full Assualt, assuming Bungie kept the code after being bought by MS.

PS2:
FF
Tekken
Capcom and Namco games

Thats really all they have, fun survhorror, if its any good, good fighters, and Final Fantasy Blows.

I recommend a Gamecube, personally, as one who has all three systems

EDIT: Also, whoever said that MS should just buy nintendo: die and go to hell, I want Full Assualt back! Damn you for buying bungie, DAMN YOU

GT4 is enough of a reason for me to have a PS2, but I realise that's not going to work for a lot of people. mmmmm, real online racing w/o that kudo crap. You wanna dance? Buy a tutu, I want to race.

Of course the GT series hasn't gotten multi-player right yet, so I don't know where my confidence is coming from...blind optimism I guess...and there is still no garauntee that I won't be racing against 'bump n jumpers''.....ah well.....

I recomend getting the gamecube. I think many people underestimate the gamecube because other systems might have games with better graphics. But in my opinion thats not all that matters. I just have more fun with the gamecube than the other systems. If not a gamecube then my second choice would be a ps2 becaus a) online is free and b) More fun looking exclusive games. I have not tried halo yet but I don't see why it's better than any other fps.

Dude, get a computer. Consoles are for whiney little kids. However if you MUST then get a PS2, the controller isn't retarded and their are some really amusing games out there. I personally use it almost exclusively for light gun games and the sidescroller fighting games.

Well only the XBOX has better grahics anyway.
I hate the PS2
XBOX live is worth the 50 bucks. It never lags and never fails.
HALO is AWSOME. I love nintendo but MEtriod Prime 2 can't compare with it.

PS2 has some of the best games and controls, IMHO.

I'm just gonna say that the PS2 controller cuts of circulation after you use it, and will require some time to readjust.

Once again, what are you going to use it for?

Although it's based on personal recomendations, here's the benefits of the different consoles

Gamecube: Mostly games for younger kids
Xbox: Games with more power
PS2: Larger selection of games

I picked the PS2 out of the three, and I have no regrets.

Thanks guys for the advice. Much appreciated :)

I settled for the Gamecube, the cheapest of them all. Which begs the question: what are in your opinion some of the coolest games for the Gamecube?

Gamecube! SSBM alone is worth it. Just my kind of game. I don't know why everyone loves shooters so much; you'd think ordinary life alone was stressful enough without getting shot and dying all the time in games. Or maybe, I just suck so I always get shot and die in shooters.

I thought Mario Sunshine was incredible; pretty much the ultimate Mario game at the time. Also, Metroid Prime. And of course Super Smash Bro's Melee.

I recommend getting Eternal Darkness, Soul Calibur II and F-Zero GX.
