We've had three typhoons in the last three weeks here in Japan. Today we were dismissed early from work due to the latest one, which was approaching Osaka. It went north of us in Hyogo and Kyoto.
This is looking to be a record bad typhoon season.
And that's ignoring the three earthquakes that rocked south Kansai (Osaka) over the last three days.
Plus a surprise volcanic eruption last week.

QUICK! Throw somebody in the volcano to appease the gods!!!!

About the earthquake you guys had: Was that the one that everybody thought was gonna be so bad? Or are earthquakes like that one more common there?

Nope, it wasn't the one of the several overdue big ones. On the other hand the Kansai region (west central area, where the main island bends) has significantly fewer quakes than the Tokyo area, so the three quakes (two Sunday night, and one this morning) have been the topic of discussion, along with the typhoons.
