I think mandatory martial arts training is actually a good idea. However banning all guns will never happen, or at least succeed. It'll probably be worse than prohibition.

The problem is that the outlaws will not stop using guns just because they are illegal. Do you really think that if you outlaw guns then all the gangbangers and murders and thiefs will say "oh guns are illeagal i will go give mine to the cops now" I do not see that happening. ;)

Most of the time when a gun is used in a crime it is a gun bought on the street. And that is already illegal.

Kitchen knives?
Tire irons?
Golf clubs?
Sharpened sticks?

Construction tools?
Rope?
Farm implements?

Just where do you draw the line? The human being has used whatever was at hand as a weapon ever since there were human beings. Your over simplification isnt even a plausible solution, let alone one that might actually solve anything.

if i recall correctly that was a sharpened blade, not a dueling practice blade

I carry a 3 3/4" lockblade pocket knife with me everywhere I go, and have for the past 10 years. I have never used it to harm another person, even though it is sharp enough to cut bone (slowly). I use it for all manner of things from cutting rope to removing splinters; to cutting plastic to cleaning fingernails. So tell me, why are you wanting to ban it?

Furthermore, banning knives would make life quite difficult for chefs and butchers.

I carry a 3 3/4" lockblade pocket knife with me everywhere I go, and have for the past 10 years. I have never used it to harm another person, even though it is sharp enough to cut bone (slowly). i mean knives as the purpose of a weapon: steak knives, filet knives, butter knives, those would be exempt

There's only one way to eliminate crime. Make everything legal.

Gun control won't work. Knife control won't work. Cut off everyone's arms and legs and lock them in a padded room, and they'll end up beating each other up by bumping noggins.
