A lot of people say paper cups are better for the environment than styrofoam cups because they biodegrade faster, back in the day styrofoam used to release CFC's when burned, and not many people realize that styrofoam is recyclable. However, (to take these in reverrse order) styrofoam uses less water than paper when recycled, is no longer made with CFC's (now they use nitrogen), and, if placed in a landfill, neither will biodegrade because that's the principle of modern landfills. Finally, and most importantly, the process for making styrofoam creates very little pollution, as opposed to the creation of paper which causes an incredible amount. Decide for yourself.

it depends on what they're used for.

To add to your comparisons, styrofoam requires more storage space

I prefer paper - water out of a styrofoam cup always tastes funny to me.

I'd also need to see more proof that styrofoam is more enviro friendly than paper...

Try putting anything hot in a paper cup...
Styrafoam for coffee, hot chocolate, tea, the likes. Paper for water, soda, that sort of wossname.
