American law vs. hippies

Last summer, at a music festival in New York State, I heard someone talking about a bill going through congress that would make the owner of a venue (concert/festival grounds) legally responsible for any drugs found on any person on the premises.
People were really worried about this because it would pretty much mean an end to music festivals in the states.
Does anyone know anything about this bill????
This would be terrible if it is true. I just came back from an amazing music festival called Evolve in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
There were live bands and DJs 24 hrs. a day for three days, powered entirely by wind and solar power, workshops were held on various topics from alternative energy to yoga, to direct action activism.
People were gathered to shae ideas, art and generally celebrate life.
There was no violence, no injuries, and nothing but immense love. There were lots of drugs, but if its not in your backyard, then what's the problem?
Hippies are far better than stupid laws.

and while you're at it, legalize selling and owning small amounts of Marijuhana like in Holland.
Never hurt anyone here.

Obviously I agree, but I'd like to keep this thread to a discussion of music festivals.... I f we could set up comunes that run like music festivals there might actually be pockets of true freedom in the world....
isn't being an idealist great!
i hate hippies i'm sorry there just annoying and selfish and i think that our laws are better than hippies ;)

isn't being an idealist great!I like the idea in my signature better.
In any case, not only is this a means of preventing people from gathering and expressing themselves, it also inhibits the free flow of information. Three signs of tyranny in one subtle twist. If I didn't know better, I'd say Bush was getting smarter.

well, you know what I hate?
People who make generalizations about entire groups of people.
If you would like to be taken seriously, you might want to explain what you mean by calling hippies "annoying and selfish".
'hippie' culture tends to be about sharing and communal living... how's that selfish exactly?

Could you explain why? Just to satisfy my curiosity, because I've never heard anyone cite anything other than irritation and inconveinience when they complain about hippies. But if you have a legitimate grevience I'd love to hear and respond to it.

I know. The US claims it's a free country, but it isn't.

The Oregon Country Fair has something like 50,000 hippies decend on a small town named Vaneta once a year... Good people for the most part because they keep thier politics to themselves (unless you get to know them) even though 90% of them would want a commie gov (I used to volunteer there and have spoken philosophy with many of my friends)....Still they have the live and let live mentality and as long as you are not pressing whatever your beliefs are onto me then your ok in my book.
I still choose American law over thier ideas, because they think they are letting everyone live thier own lives but yet they want to tell you how to live your life lol. If they had thier ways, no suv's (eventually no more cars), no guns, no atv's, no mountain bikes in wilderness areas, no hunting, no more stick built homes, no more water for farmers cause fish need it more, no more electric or gas powered scooters, No more private property, no such things as a tax break since you work for the good of everyone else but yourselve, no more..... well you get the point it would be a ban happy society (because authoritarian's of either spectrum are selfish and want you to only have what they want you to have). Still I consider a few of them as close as friends as my libertarian and republican and democrat friends. Now I just got to find a few Constitutional minded friends and I will be truly blessed with diversity.

I know I am not much better by clumping them all together by saying "Once you get to know them" but that was just my own personal experience. I still go to the country fair I went this year to see some old friends. Man talk about bad traffic problems lol even with a hell of alot of them taking the bus or hitching rides and walking and riding bikes. But it is just a big party of peace minded people even though I am not considered all that 'peace minded'. I am whenever it is possible, 100% of the time. Plus everyone needs a little culture in thier life. Even if it is the hippy culture!

As the generational offspring of hippies (slackers, their like hippies with Playstations....) I have to underline the 'live and let live' notion. Persue what the hell you want, do it responsably (thats where the SUV thing comes from, I don't need to be endangered on the road so you can show up the Jones').
I can't see that law as anything more than an attempt at limiting assembly, because if anything goes wrong it's your ass. You don't go totalitarian overnight, you do it piece by piece, concession by concession. This is horrible, and not just because I want to do drugs in a field somewhere (I live in California, I can smoke just about anywhere...).
As a side note, that festival in the first post seems pretty kick ass. I wish I had gone/heard about it.

We had a festival here in Canada called Sunfest. It ran for 4 years.I was lucky enough to attend the 2nd year with the biggest crowd. There were close to 50 ooo ppl. It's the closest I'll ever get to a Woodstock. I actually met a number of ppl from the 60's who still lived that lifestyle. Not like most of the crowd who were there just to get wasted. A couple of em even walked around nude till they were busted by the censorship police. Man you couldn't even smoke dope out in the open, and ya could only have plastic hard liquor bottles and aluminum beer cans. or you were busted.
It was still pretty decent though. Peace
