New York banned it... I have yet see any data proving that it decreases accident rates.

Personal sidenote: Jersey girls can't drive for shit... phone or no phone.

I think that it is already illegal in some states. If that isn't the case, then Hell Yes! It endangers the driver, passengers, and everyone else on the road.

I dont think they should be banned from being inside vehicles, but while the car is actually moving I dont think people should be allowed to use them, they should have to pull over or something, or use a handsfree set...something like that.
But I doubt cops are going to pull a person over for talking on a cell, it would most likely be something they tacked on when they pull you over for speeding and such.

No. What about all the other more distracting things in the car? Should we ban the radio, CD players, food, make-up, CB radios, kids, etc...
It's a feel good policy that makes no sense.

No one in Jersey can drive, what with your traffic circles and jug handles...I just want to make a left turn!

Amen. I used to think Massholes were bad, but Jersey girls put them to shame.

I think handsfree sets are fine, but holding the phone in one hand while driving is dangerous. I have seen people try to make a turn and not be able to complete it with the phone at their ear; my future in-laws were rear-ended at a red light by someone talking on a cell phone who admitted they "just didn't see them!"

Curiously enough, eating and drinking in a car are often illegal under "driving distracted" rules.

One is not engaged with a radio or CD player to the same intensity as one is when having a phone conversation... so this "slippery slope" is particularly silly.

Has anyone caught a bus and seen the little sign that says 'dont talk to the driver while bus is in transit'? You know considering bus drivers as professional drivers are considered to be less safe as drivers if they are having a discussion, it only makes sense to say 'no cell phone talking when driving'. I suggest if anyone were to have a close relative killed by some prat chatting away on a cell phone while driving, they would strongly agree that someone's little chit chat is not as important as the life of their loved ones...

On more than a few ocassions I have been damn near ran over by Idiots talking on cells. Anyone who splits there attention when operating heavy equipment is a moron.

Oh and doing so while carrying your kids in the car is (or should be) Criminal.

No they shouldn't be banned, however if they..

-Almost hit your car, you should be able to throw a rock at their car.
-Get a dent in your car, you should be able to shoot at their car with a paintball gun,
-Hit your car, you should be able to shoot them in the eyes with a paintball gun.
-Kill someone, you should be able to stab them wherever you want..heh heh..
