You can create a custom flag. You can answer issues (up to 2 a day, you can set the frequency), you can role-play, you can watch your nation grow. This isn't an exceptionally interactive game. Mostly you do a few tasks a day and then wait to see what happens.

Well, start by going to the Nuts and Bolts (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1222) forum section. There are really good helpful threads there. You won't find much in the General forum, since this is where all the stupidity falls. You'll want to go to the Nuts and Bolts forums for real help.

Role-playing is basically just taking on the role of your country/leader, and interacting with other players in the setting of the NS world. You can trade, discuss, go to war (with other willing countries), etc. I would recommend reading existing posts to get a feel for it before starting.
