If you mean, "Im not a number...Im a free man!"
Thats from a British tv series in the sixties, called "The Prisoner".
Iron Maiden made a song about it, on thier "Number of the beast" album.

Instrumentally okay yeah... Their singer... NO!!!
He ruined it for the band...
I will be so extreme as to say that even Dani Filth, the "vocals" from Cradle of Filth is still better than the vocals from King Diamond...
And thats pretty extreme... considering that Dani Filth screeches what seems to be unintelligible gibberish...

Iced Earth.... never heard of them, and it's the only one on the list I have not heard of.
I am wondering if this is a shameless marketing ploy to put subliminal thoughts of a new group in everyones heads. If it isn't, then it's a great idea and people should start doing it anyway.
I'm going to do some research and see if i can locate a link.

I think The Prisoner was also a movie at some point...
Oh no it wasn't.
I got Marillion by the way... 'Garden Party' is a great song for it seething class hatred (images of Stukas dive bombing Cambridge undergraduates), but the rest of their output doesn't do much for me.
Oh no it wasn't.
.
My mistake... There was a movie titled The Prisoner (http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/movie.html?v_id=39256) however.
But it wasn't based on the series...

The Duelists
The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner
Quest For Fire
The Wickerman
Where Eagles Dare
Children Of The Damned
I'm sure there are a couple I have missed and a couple which while about films or TV shows don't share the same title (such as Back In The Village Again and The Prisoner). I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader...

14 out 53... Going up to the album Somewhere in Time
Certainly their entire career is based on songs from movies, tv shows novels and romantic poems!
Thats 26% of their early songs...
Thats not exactly basing their entire career on tv shows, movies, novels and poems!

that actually is the correct title of the novel the movie was based on, i'll give them that. don't get me wrong i like maiden, but they did it alot and it does have a strong element of cheesiness. i'd bet the true total is somewhere between a third and half of their songs.

don't get me wrong i like maiden...
Personally I just can't stand their clicky bass sound, but then i don't really like metal much. I can listen to maybe a couple of Iron Maiden tunes before I wonder off in search of something which will hold my attention, but having said that, their are certainly a lot of worse metal bands out there.
EDIT: add Stranger In A Strange Land (Heinlein novel title) to the list, I assumed that you would have listed that one.

At max a third... and whats wrong with that anyways? i'm actually glad that thres a band that actually reads novels (there arent that many movies and tv shows they made a song of) and its iimpossible to look at lyrics alone when one talks about their works... i mean "Phantom of the Opera" had horrible lyrics but it was the guitar riffs that made the song incredible.
And you are really starting to stretch things saying mercenary is based on predator... REALLY starting to stretch things... we can do that kind of stretching with any band...
You people have no reverence of the greats... like Maiden... sure lets pick apart their works and say ooh this is based on that and that is based on this.

Symphony X is a prog-metal band. They remind me a fair amount of Rush, but I've heard comparisons to all sorts of prog bands from the 60s and 70s. I've heard one of their albums, The Odyssey...it's quite good from a technical standpoint, although not as emotional as I think it could be, which is its major failing.
