Would you die for the President?

As I'm sure everyone else here will say, "it depends." You can't expect people to lay down their life blindly.

um, yeah, I am majoring in history and I can't think of a singe person who "died for" a President ( in modern times at least) so we really don' t have anything to base this on do we.

It really is a difficult question. I'd like to say, like so many others "it depends on who is in office." However, it doesn't work that way. The Commander in Cheif is the Commander in Cheif, like him or not. And as such, we as military members must respect that. It's the same for any rank. You respect the rank, not necessarily the person.

That said, I have agreed to follow the orders of those appointed over me, and the orders of the Commander in Cheif. If he places me in that situation, it's definately not what I would ask for, but so be it.

Not for the president, unless I was Secret Service assigned to him, as it would be my sworn duty (I think). But for my family, friends, and country, I would.

I would die for anyone in need of bodily protection, merely for the sake of helping another. I do not like the current president, but i would still jump in front of a bullet for him for the sake of helping another, Not because he is powerful or even if i approved of him in any fashion.

If William Howard Taft were deemed in medical danger, would you let time-travelling doctors from the 25th century (assuming there have been great advances in science and medicine since the 21st century in the 25th century) take all the fat out of his body and put it in your own?

I wouldn't follow that guy to the beer stand at a football game for fear of him getting fleeing from a loud noise.

Presidents are irrelevant. One dies, another takes his place. Maybe he'll veto different bills, and it would be hard for a dead one to be re-elected, but the difference overall isn't worth dying for.

You wouldn't be dying just for the president. The death of the president leads to civil and economic unrest throughout the world. During the transition to a new president, the US is extremely vulnerable.
