As far as the issue of marriage goes, which change would you like to see more than any other?

I just want to see the issue resolved. Change the law, change the definition, let 'em get non-religious ceromonies, whatever. I just want the situation to end with as many people as happy as possible.

If I must, the change I'd like to see to marriage is to completely get rid of it except as a religious institution, and have the government only recognise civil unions. But, if I can't have that, I'd like to see marriage redefined to include TWO PEOPLE. (OMG, two people, that'll make people want to marry toasters and multiple wives and husbands! OH NOEZ! NOT TEH SINNARZ!). Hm, actually, I wouldn't mind seeing marriage being redefined as a legal contract between consenting, loving partners.

A Klondike bar.
Oh, and marriage eliminated as a legal term.

I'm glad to hear that more people are finding the compromise term :)
I too agree, we should just get rid of the word marriage from all the legal stuff and just call them all civil unions... that way, Gays get the same rights as straights, and straights don't complain about marriage being mocked or whatever.
It's the old make-them-both-happy-by-giving-them-less-but-equal-stuff thing :)
but of course, let's get real... this will never happen... so i voted in actuality for the abolishment of inheritance tax... that's the reason why many people marry is simply for the tax-free stuff.

I think "marriage" should be eliminated from the legal dictionary, since it is a religious construct.

And let's not forget the ability to see your partner in the hospital!
And what about all the married-only type events? Gays are missing out on those too..

Well, Abortion doesn't affect me, as I am not a woman, does that mean I shouldn't get involved?

Congrats Big Jim P! :D
I voted to let them have civil unions. I'm going to keep my reasons to myself, as when I post them people try to convert me to their way of thinking. Not only do I have no interest in that, but it would only serve to turn this in to yet another 20 page debate about nothing.

It's simplest to dissolve the legal institution of marriage, and make it just a religious and/or personal matter. Maybe if they grandfathered the law to allow for all current marriages to stay intact, but beyond that, no new marriages...at least legally. And no "civil unions." It's just simplest and cuts out a bunch of overhead for the government.
