Unfortunately I do live in a US state, but fortunately it is a more tolerable one. The civilized New York state. And if not that, the equaly civilized California.

Any other state other than CA, NY, or New England... never.

Well, I also live in a U.S. state. Granted it my not be classified as "civilized", but it is nice. I currently live in Mississippi. It has some of the most beautiful sunsets of any place I have ever been. In my lifetime, I have traveled to every state in this nation except for Hawaii and Alaska, and only because I didn't feel like driving to Alaska and the fact that my car cannot drive on water...yet. My choice for state I would most like to live in is Montana. It is a great place. A person can go there and not worry about the rest of the world. Ahh, the joys of a solitary existance...

Not really "crazy", just more chaotic than where I live (which isn't really that hard to acheive because I live in Nebraska).

Nebraskans are usually good drivers, very polite and such, except for teenagers (I know, I was one). Va Beach had some of the worst drivers I've ever seen, and Albany has some really stupid people on the roads, especially the ones that think that a bus is gonna swerve off the shoulder so they can get into the right lane... heh.

All in all, I was happy with Nebraska (central area) and the Pheonix area, but I think Albany's starting to grow on me. But no place comes close to new Orleans.
Sorry for being all over the place, my mind is the same... yikes.

Yeah, central Nebraska is a nice place. I rather like South Dakota and Colorado, though. When I went on vacation to those states, I liked the change as far as mountains and hills instead of flat plains.

Not to mention we created Boeing, Microsoft, and Starbucks... Monopolies in all their industries. I don't know I really like it here so I choose Washington.

California just plain PWNS all the other states.

Really, their is no craziness over here, that all blew away with the 2003 election of future President Arnold Schw. (can't even spell his last name).

L.A. is a bit different, it's got plenty of bums and has a huge amount of graffiti, but that's all the culture that comes with Los Angeles. You gotta discover what culture that is, however.

I don't expect New Yorkers, Texans, Colorados, Floridans, etc. to know that. It's like asking a 2nd grader what does x equal is 3x = 12?

As an Arkansan, I love that attitude -- it keeps jerks like you out of here. I doubt you've spent a minute here, or you wouldn't have made such an idiotic, ill-informed statement.

Frankly, I love Northwest Arkansas. The Ozarks are gorgeous, winters are mild and we have one of the strongest economies in the nation (check the Milken reports, if you'd like). Indeed, we are home to Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods and J.B. Hunt and billions of dollars (some from your home state, no doubt) flow through here yearly. When the rest of the nation was in a recession, our standard of living actually improved. Why? Folks on a budget go to Wal-Mart, and buy chicken. The University of Arkansas (Bill Clinton's old stomping ground, remember?) is also a major, consistent employer. Recession? What recession. Our population in this part of the world doubled over the past decade and there seems to be no evidence growth will slow down any time soon.

I'm happy where I am. However, I also love St. Louis (best baseball town in the nation) and the Dallas/Fort Worth area is great, too. However, there are great games to be played in New York City -- "let's make eye contact!" is one of my favorites.

I take it then you're from some southwestern that has less population than my whole city.

I love Wisconsin, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, but I am a New Yorker, born and bred. We have museums, Broadway, shopping, night clubs, cuisines from around the world, and are one of the few entertainment and financial centers in the country, and also in the larger global community.

But hey, if you can't handle the diversity and the wealth of culture and industry we have here, by all means, stay home.

BTW: Why do people always say "No offense" when they know they are being offensive?

You obviously didn't read the rest of my posts. I know what New York has in it and I know it is civilized, that is just the first time that I have heard of New York being "more" civilized than any other state. And people where I live don't really think of New York as "crazy" just more chaotic than where I live.

Don't judge on that drive, though. Interstate 80 is probably the most boring drive you could possibly take through Nebraska, or any other major highway for that matter. If you branch off the beaten path and see some of the bigger cites (Sydney, Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings, Lincoln, or Omaha) there are actually things to do and see.

But no, why I said California and New York/North-East in general are more civilized... is because they are. I.e. in comparison to the deep South and the Mountain states.

And more culture than the rest of the country. Yeah, LA has issues, but San Diego just went through this whole renaissance, and it's a nicer place to live.

I've been to Arkansas three times, for one to two weeks each time, to visit relatives of my in-laws (the out-laws). I really do not like it there (although this could have been colored by the fact that I didn't want to camp out, I didn't like the people that we were visiting, and I HATE it when it's all humid and nasty - which is was). The Ozarks are outstandingly beautiful, and I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mountain Home and Hot Springs, but aside from visiting those places occasionally, I wouldn't want to have to be there all the time. And no offense to the Show Me state, but it is BORING to have to drive through Missouri. Kansas City is cool, though. And the cave system there is pretty awesome. But I don't have anything against these states, I just wouldn't want to live there. I like to visit Florida, but I wouldn't want to live there either.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to live anywhere other than where I do. Central Kentucky. (and I'm sure there will be plenty of negative remarks for KY as well).

If I had to move somewhere else, though, I think I'd choose to live in Virginia (on the coast) or in upstate New York (somewhere close to Niagra, beautiful country up there). I like St. Louis, I like Chicago, but if I was going to live in a "Big City" I'd have to opt out of any of the US cities and move straight to Toronto (which is the most outstanding place I have ever visited, I'd move there for the ROM alone). It was just so clean there, even the subway. And there's either a donut shop or a pizza place on every corner LOL. However, I have issues with the Canadian idea of a 'heated pool' LOL Seems that if there's no ice in it, it's heated ;).

Although I've never been further west than Kansas, I have it on good authority from my big bro that Washington State and Alaska are some of the best places on earth, and that if you have to live in a city that San Francisco is a good one (although he doesn't much care for the rest of California, other than the mountains).

Just stay away from anywhere that hangs a Confederate Flag, and you'll be fine ;)

Actually, anywhere there's a college is usually not as 'redneck' as the other places. We're a college town and we've got a really nice mix of people here. It's nice :-D

Wyoming, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Vermont, Hawaii, Las Vegas nv. Those are my favorite places that I have visited or lived.

Places I have visited or lived that I dislike are California (only place besides NY where you get killed for going down the wrong streets, yea real civilized or for your tennis shoes)

Virginia is cool if you are into it but I just still can not believe you guys have not even one drive through coffee stand! North Carolina is ok to visit(outer banks) but to live no way. The rest of the places ive been were intersting places to visit but didnt like living there.

Why would I live in the favorite states, cause they are all real down to earth, nobody trying to control what another person does as long as they are safe.

Places I've lived: Northern Virginia near DC...love it, but don't stay if you aren't REALLY into politics. People are open-minded, but not the most open and friendly. A mix of pluses and minuses.

Earthern (both Noth and South Indiana)....okay aside from Indianapolis, which is as open-minded as ANY place I've ever been (GO INDY!!!), people here are sweet but fairly homogeneous and closed-minded. It's very pretty, but I didn't really feel at home. Interesting point though, even though Indiana is in the Bible Belt, it has one of the largest Pagan populations I've ever seen...talk about a backlash!

UpState New York......BOY did I love Upstate New York! Gorgeous, friendly, and liberal. Better water and air. Nuff said. :)

Places I'd like to Try Next: Once I graduate Graduate school, I'd love to hit the Pacific West. I'm thinking either Portland, Oregon or maybe Seattle, Washington. California's great, but I'm a poor Social Worker, and, face it you guys, I can't afford it! ;)
