Your personal 10 Commandments

So, if you could be the one to write the 10 commandments for the world, what would yours be?

I'd only have one: "One must act in accordance with how things are, not how one wants things to be."

However, I'm curious to see what ya'lls would be. If you like the current decalogue, it's ok ... say so.

There's only one rule. Treat others as I would like to be treated. This includes the earth. I often fail to hold to this rule, but I find that it really eliminates the need for more than one.

That's a good one, too. Including the Earth in the Golden Rule ... I like it! Keep 'em comin'!

6. Never force your Beleaves on others

Hmm... I do think the original ten are good. The five (unofficially six) pillars of Islam work just as well. Still, my personal rules in no particular order:

1. Never take away life, except when saving other life.

2. Trust the future, trust the process, trust life, trust yourself.

3. Seek progression. Learn.

4. Seek balance in all things. Be one with all.

5. Appriciate uniqueness.

6. Always have room for Love.

7. Forgive everything.

8. Repair any damage you may cause.

9. Put others before yourself.

This one is stolen from Life's Little Instruction Booklet:

10. Laugh loudly. Love deeply. Kiss passionately. Give freely. Speak clearly. Live fully.

1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Or if that's too difficult, at the least - do not do unto others as you would not have done unto you.

2. Don't force your beliefs on other people, or at the very least, don't pre-emptively do so. If someone forces their beliefs on you, they lose their right not to have beliefs forced upon them.

3. Remember, you can always earn more money. It's a lot harder to earn more time, so if you can save time rather than saving money, do it.

4. If you move to a place that speaks a different language, for Pete's sake, learn enough of the language to get by. That doesn't mean that Americans can use this as an excuse to force the entire population to speak English; if some town in New Mexico wants to speak Spanish, let them.

5. Pay your taxes. But make sure they are well-spent.

6. Don't ever eat anything with ketchup. Ranch dressing is generally a good substitute.

7. Don't piss off my cat Cruiser, as she has sharp teeth and is not afraid to use them.

8. Pepsi is the breakfast of champions. Respect it as such.

9. Don't go on the Atkins diet. Or eat anything advertised as "low-carb." Carbs are your friend.

10. Always eat at Grizzlebee's.

It's cool. I had nothing better to post - all the threads I'm interested in are a bit slow. I actually don't care that much. This is hardly "quelling free speech".

And so from the heights of mount Nevis came thy holy scribe, carrying with him those devine messages from the heighest force, scratched into bare rock tablets. And he announced thus:

I. Thou shalt respect everything on Earth, includeth thy animals, insects and objects, as thou wishest to be respected.
II. Thou shalt help those whoest are in need, before thou helpest thyselfs
III. Thoust should treat all things equally
IV. All persons are entittled to thy own opinions
V. Life is holy, and none shall taketh it away, unless to prolong their own.
VI. No one is above thy holy commandments

As for a new decalogue, I do quite like that of Solon the Athenian, which dates from around 600BC, but unlike the variants of Moses, does still hold true.: -

1. Trust good character more than promises.
2. Do not speak falsely.
3. Do good things.
4. Do not be hasty in making friends, but do not abandon them once made.
5. Learn to obey before you command.
6. When giving advice, do not recommend what is most pleasing, but what is most useful.
7. Make reason your supreme commander.
8. Do not associate with people who do bad things.
9. Honor the gods.
10. Have regard for your parents.

1) Think before you speak or act.
2) Respect the beliefs of others, even if you do not agree with them. Also, respect the rights of animals and the earth itself. We all 'share' this world and no-one has more rights than any other.
3) Help someone less fortunate. Make this a daily routine.
4) Do not impose your hatred upon other people, especially children. Hatred only breeds more hatred and resentment.
5) Always speak the truth.... unless the question is... "Does my new dress make me look fat?"
6) Don't tease animals.
7) Thou shalt not kill, maim, paralyse, incapacitate or generally be a jerk.
8) Discrimination is wrong. Stop it.
9) Never use a weapon to sort out a disagreement. God gave us fists for this purpose.
10) Never wear red AND green, because you will look like a christmas tree.

1 - The flesh is sacred, do not poison it with "unfood", but keep it strong with "good food".

2 - Friends are your extention of self. Trust them as they trust you. Inspire loyalty and they are your greatest asset, your greatest treasure.

3 - Drugs are a foul blight, avoid them at all costs as they weaken both body and mind.

4 - Utilize only what is necessary, do not over-consume as this leads to weakeness and decadence with is always evil.

5 - Respect all life, since how you feel about all other life, is ultimatly how you feel about yourself.

6 - Focus on the inner self, on inner development.

7 - Hardship can be a blessing. If it does not kill you, you are the better for having survived it.

8 - Do not seek violance, harsh life or pain. For if they so wish - They shall seek you!

9 - The mind is only a tool. But a much needed tool while you live.

10 - Follow the "oldest way" (instinct) - the "first way of being". For if you have mastered it, it can never betray you.

I have 13 articles of faith in my church so i'll use ten of them.
1) We belive in the bible to ne the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

2) We belive all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yewt real many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

3) We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

4) We believe man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

5) We claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

6) We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

7) We believe inbeing honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men,; in deed we may say that we follow the teachings of Paul (finish later)

These are just some of the maxims I try to remember in my daily life, and I've found them useful.

1.) Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

2.) Admit to nothing, learn from everything.

3.) If you find yourself automatically objecting to a statement made by another person, remember that the truth hurts.

4.) You are much more than your mind, so take care of all of yourself, not just your mind.

5.) He who shouts loudest often has the least significant things to say.

6.) Do not be troubled by those who question, be troubled by those who say they have the answers.

7.) Do not coddle yourself, weakness lies on that path, and when you are weak you are no good to yourself or anybody else.

8.) If you begin to believe you are enlightened, then you are not.

9.) Those who desire power should never be given it.

10.) Be able to laugh at yourself, and you might stay sane.

1: Do not cause any harm to another human.
2: Do not allow yourself to come to harm.
3: Live life to its fullest, unless it conflicts with the first commandment. You can break the second commandment, but only if you really, want to.
4: Duct tape can do anything.
5: An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
6: Try to look at everything you are told from both perspectives, or, question everything you are told.
7: Emoticons do not make you seem more inteligent. Neither do abbreviations. Or "1337 5p34k."
8: Regret nothing, or, do not dwell on the past or the future.
9: It is better to be silent and thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt.
10: All things come to an end, including your life. Accept it.
