Suggestions for Universities?

I'm currently going into my grade 11 year at high school, so I figured I should start looking into universities and stuff....

Now, if I were planning to pursure a medical career (i.e. 4 years in university, probably majoring in biology to get my undergraduate degree or whatever on earth you call it, and then 3 years in med school), what do you guys think would be some good universities?

I'm looking for American/Canadian universities here....

So, basically, I'm looking for suggestions of good universities (mostly good education + it is well known throughout north america, i.e. it'll look nice on a resume) for biology programs and good medical schools... or if you could direct me to a resource that's good for this sort of thing that'd be great too.

No UACguide (University Admissions Course guide) in your country?

in Australia I found the UACguide most helpful, and reccomend Sydney University if you want to come visit the land down under.

Well where I am, I haven't been able to find anything other than for universities in my province alone (Ontario, Canada), or resources that only list universities as in "overall best", rather than the best for any specific field...

I would have assumed the US would have an equivalent to the UAC, so possibly try looking in a US newsagency.

even this might not help though, as it just lists every course and gives each uni a page to go on about how good they are. If you get sick you could ask a doctor what (s)he reccomends.

In Canada I've heard that U of Toronto and UBC have excellent med schools. U of A is supposed to be quite good as well.

Auckland has one of the best medical schools on the pacific rim, best known for its research in neurophysiology. The benefit is that you dont have to do an undergrad degree, you can go straight into medicine (provided your marks are good) and come out with an MD in 5 years.

Have you tried Google?

You should consider majoring in Biological Engineering instead of plain Biology. You can still be pre-Med, but if you change your mind and don't do med school after you get your Bachelor's degree, there are a lot more job options out there for you, you'll get paid more, and engineers (at least at my school) get competed for by companies (which means you can play with them and get the best offer).

In Canada the schools are mostly pretty well documented and there aren't that many to evaluate. Queens certainly has always had a good Medical School as has UofT and a few others.

For the US, here is a link that includes breakdowns of research vs primary care as well as by a few specialities:

This site also seems to have a good set of links to help you out:

Feel free to type "canada medical school rankings" into the search engine of your choice and do you own research too....
