Question to people who have lived in or near an Olympic host city before the Olympics

So, I live about 5 hours outside Vancouver, which is the host of the 2010 Winter Games. There are constant ads promoting tourism in B.C. (the province Vancouver is in) and they always say "discover the spirit of 2010". On signs describing construction projects funded by the government, there's a 2010 logo and the words "spirit of 2010" What I want to know is if your state/province/city always mentioned or implied "we got the Olympics, so we're special"

In the hallway leading from the terminal to the baggage claim at LAX, there was a sign that said, "Welcome to Los Angeles, home of the 1984 Olympics," for over ten years.

The problem is that a lot of cities/countries/provinces post losses after large scale events. Because of the need for increased security, cleanup, and accomidations and other neccesities used to run the stadium or make the people who attend the event comfortable.
Take how much money almost all cities that host the WTO loose.
1. People don't go into the city because of the increased security and street closures.
2. Payment for police putting in overtime to maintain the security of the event, and controlling the crowds.
3. Cleanup after the crowds.
And the statement that money is everything is innacurate. I would say it's a good 60%.

Money may not be everything, but it helps a hell of a lot!
I live in Vancouver, and I feel that.. why am I using good grammar.
It does a lot of good for the city that we're hosting the 2010 winter olympics. Since our city doesn't want the world to find out we have a winding-icy-portal-of-doom-in-the-form-of-a-highwaywhich leads to Whistler, work has begun to make the highway safer.

Small but significant changes like that are beginning to take place.
